From the Heart

About this ebook
From The Heart is a collection of poetry written straight from my heart as I see the world, both real and fantasy. This earthly life at times has been negative such as when my husband was dying and Farewell To This Earth was written upon his passing. Family memories prompted A Wedding Portrait, Lovely Flowers On The Altar or Sequoia National Park. My first great granddaughters birth suggested A Baby. Complaints about the weather created the poem Hows The Weather? Lost your keys? Wheres The Key put a humorous side to this problem. Mother Nature inspired I Heard A Bird Sing, A Rainbow, A River and The Cool Breeze. Life being what it is inspired Gods Presence, In God We Trust, Let Us Pause. The annual Christmas Story about Jesus birth is told in a different way, from a donkeys point of view as he plods along with Mary on his back and Joseph at his side in Daniel Donkeys Special Trip. Daniel and his stable companions are in awe when the Wisemen appear. Miscellaneous subjects are covered in poems such as Proud To Be An American, Ice Cream, Im A Poet And Know it, to name just a few. Christmas, Easter and the seasons bring change and written words often share what we feel. I invite you to come into my world for a brief time and share the experiences of life with me and me with you. Feel free to laugh, to cry, to feel sad or just inspiration to improve your relationships with others.

From the Heart - Carol Daugherty
A Baby
A baby represents new life on earth,
Filling everybody with delight and mirth.
The miracle of birth is very special and renews us.
We’re given a chance to earn an A plus.
A new life is beginning with an open slate to learn,
Upon which much will be written and to yearn.
As each day goes by of life the imprint is made,
And the time does bade
Much attention to learning the how to’s.
Sometimes there aren’t many clues.
Muscles develope each day,
We learn to listen and play.
Mom and Dad are there to help us,
Especially when we fuss.
Mobility is a problem at first,
We’re stuck and sometimes feel our worst.
Finally, we move about by rolling or crawling ahead,
Then we think about getting out of our bed.
Leg muscles and feet become strong enough to walk,
Our baby babble becomes words and talk.
Life isn’t easy for a baby with a lot to learn.
We have energy to burn.
A whole new world awaits our arrival,
Sometimes our actions affect our survival.
Little ones are fun to watch as they grow and learn,
Going straight and when they make a turn.
As they grow older and start school,
That baby meets the big world and becomes cool.
Those baby pictures we save over the years,
Remind of how it used to be and the tears.
Welcome that new baby and remember you are the ones who write
On the new slate of life, now letting loose and not holding on tight.
Are You Too Busy?
Are you too busy to read a book?
Or too busy to stop and look
At the beauty around You?
You don’t have a clue
To what goes on with a friend?
Maybe they need a hug to help their heart mend.
What about that book you haven’t read,
You’re alive, not dead.
Or that visit to the library to check out a book—
A hard cover, paper back you can read or take a look?
What about your social life?
A dinner date with friends, husband or wife?
The heritage of family values, activities or sharing,
What will you leave when you die—estrangement or caring?
Life is too short to let the busy world rule,
Stop, slow down, money is only a tool
To help us through this life,
It shouldn’t be number one or cause strife.
There’s more to life than that IPod or cell phone,
Or the newest technical gadget with or without a ring tone.
Connection on a one-to-one basis with others,
Family, friends, fathers, brothers, sisters, or mothers
Gives us the warm, fuzzy feeling in a personal way, indeed.
Come back to the human race again,
Come out of isolation, lose the isolution pain.
When you face a life/death immediate situation in your life,
Will that technical device be your only comfort through that strife?
Read the library paper book or see what’s around you,
Find real life and human connection, get the clue!
A Rainbow
By Carol Daugherty
A rainbow represents God’s love
With bright colors seen in the sky above.
After it rains and the sun shines,
We look up at our skylines,
Hoping to see some pretty colors in an arc
Reminding us God has left His earthly mark.
Today I saw a rainbow in a different way,
Something I had never seen before, I must say.
The sun was out with few clouds in view,
No rain, but hot and muggy as clue
That Summer was close and near,
Time to think of vacations dear.
Circling the sun was a rainbow
With the colors in tow.
Not an arc, but round,
Seen very clearly from the ground.
The school students and teachers saw it too,
With our eyes glued to the view.
It was there most of the day,
Even on my walk along the way
To my house after school hours.
No one but God could have such powers
As to create such a sight
And help us appreciate His might.,
So the next time you see a rainbow in the sky,
Enjoy it whether and arc or round, way up high.
