First of all I want to thank God for His grace and guidance in all that I do. If it wasn’t for Him it wouldn’t be possible to do what we do in our daily lives. I gratefully want to acknowledge my family members, especially my wife, Magdalene, and my wonderful children, Felicity, Victoria and Theresa Ntuen and the entire Nto Ekpenyong Ntuen population for they are sources of inspiration in my life. Chapter 1:

    Mind over Matters

    The beginning of a journey

    Black My Color~

Black my color; it’s the story of my being

Like the color of the night sky, I’m black

    Black my color, I’m proud

Like the color of my hair, I’m black

    Like an eclipse, I’m black

Black my history, I’m about that.

They tried to denounced my race

    ––-Still I’m black–

    From generations to generations,

From the culture I was raised,

From the hymns and chants of my parents,

    It’s more than appearance.

You can’t own me, and neither can you control me.

From the many years of slavery to our emancipation

Journey to the black, still I remain

Through whips and chains, still I’m strong

Africa, my mother land protect me from the hurt

Like the pride of Egyptian great, I’m black

––—Black my story, black my history––

Like charcoal from the wood burned, the more I am.

I can’t be ashamed nor will I deny

    Like the shadow that follows,

Like eyes shot when sleep attained,

    Yes, I remain black.

So I praise my creator for I’m proud

Now you know but do you really understand?

––—Black my story, black my color––—

    Our Fleshly Wounds~

Our flesh ruptured from the bones of our bones

A blood bath it ran in the open like the Red Sea

The cold from the shivering winter freezes our wounds

We were to be erased and silenced like the grave.

A smile we wore on our faces like the mask of a cultural play

Inside we mourned the pain of the plantation plague

We were virtuous, but now passed by without notice

It’s us the one created flesh out of the molded clay.

We kept mum and left silenced for the pain

Work we must in satisfaction of our masters

How could we have contested to such punishments!!

After all we are with families: mother, father and child

Sweat we gushed out like we were constricted

Still and still, work we must for our masters

We could felt our families shedding their painful tears

To what degree could the hardship go on?

Cry not my blood, we would say to them

Cry not for these days would soon be overcome

Many times we wanted to run to escape the hardship

But many times we seized to such anticipated thoughts

Where would we go when we had no sense of directions!

Should we get caught, what will become of the future?

So we settled to the work that the master gave

Soon it would come to pass, so we claimed

Many nights and days we prayed for our freedom reigns

By wind that blew and river that flow we mailed our thoughts

Only He can deliver, O, God of Abraham

Anxiously we waited for that glorious day

God blessed that president for his Emancipation of Proclamation

Our days in bondage were over—we sang

We would no longer be cage like animals against our will

We felt the joy of the Israelites marched out of Egypt land

We will become somebody because we are somebody made

Our heads turned as we walked toward an open yard

No longer will the color of our eyes be our judges and juries

Surely not will the color of our skins be our life punishment

We will call you our friends and neighbors

For we will share and appreciate with you

One nation we are indivisible by law

We are born again, YES, Free at Last

The Red, White & Blue ~

The red, the white, and the blue

    I salute you in gratitude

"I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America,

and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible,

with liberty and justice for all."

I vividly remember like yesterday’s meal

How hate was spread like wild fire fumed

In a distant, he stood and laughed in a carefree way

In pleasure delight, he so rejoiced

He had caved us in, so he thought

Bin Laden, Bin Laden; where is thy fate?

As it is written; we should give to Caesar what is truly Caesar’s

    To men and women alike,

In one nation we shall stand

Our motives is clear and actions justified

The goal is set and royalty is bound for the red, white, and blue

Who then shall question our motives for raising our canes?

Should we have laid death like the Ebola plague?

Maybe, we could have stood still while they pry us to an early grave

Why must we die, let the cause be known

For the passion of our freedom, we rise

For our fathers and their fathers before them, we rise

This land that we proudly love and cherish, we rise

Live another day free to soars like our great eagle

Shouldn’t we be free to shine like our lady liberty?

Never should we compromise our freedom for your evil deeds

We are the few, the brave and the defender of the homeland

This Flag, our symbol, we will carry it with pride and might

Like generations past who fought for this land, so will we

America stands tall and defends her youth

America stands tall and defends her old

Statue of Liberty guide her freedom proud

Conquer we must for our cause is just

Our land the free, the proud and our home of the braves

In the end Flag will raise in victory, for freedom been defended.

    (In memory of 9-1-1)

    The White Dove~

I closed my eyes and for the moment the world vanished

Laid back on the rocking chair on the front porch

The breeze as the wind swirled from East to West

    So peaceful was the world

    Comforting became her nature

Stars in heavenly sky ignited as the world rejoices in unity

No guards with its heavy arteries to parade the street

World peace was celebrated at all corners of the earth

Neighbors of all races shared in common goal

Terrors, terrorists and oppressors were of non-existence

Peace and Unity served every human’s life

The white dove became our symbol of hope

Still I was afraid for what reality might bring

For now eyes tighten as I longed for the dream world

The white dove, an eagle of our freedom reign

    Cries of Violence~

Nations fail to correct the wrongs to rights

Societies fill with such hatred among themselves

Peace is of much needed, why ponder the possibility?

Why do we let our grouches destroy the nature’s own?

Peace is among those who preserve peace

Love and respect embraces our Supreme Being

The destruction of mankind had taken pricey turn in our nations

Why born when you don’t know what the enemy will do?

Life crushed like flower that had not seen daylight

How can one survive on an empty stomach without bread to break?

Do not hate because of the cultural differences

Do not discriminate because of the color they wear

Our fathers once spoke of the word that read

All men are created equal regarded their races.

So embedded in our constitution creed

They said, Eye for an eye

How can we see if none is there to lead?

There will always be war within us if we so ignore our uniqueness

How can we pretend to love and respect when the war of pride exists?

I am not much of a man when I raise my arm

What does that make you when you carry your arm with intend in mind?

You empty minded, shame on you

We can shout and pundits like the house of common

At the end of the day, let put our nation first

Let chant these word like Mandela did

Blood that unites us is thicker than the water that separates us

    Unmentioned~

Window drapes cover yourself for I wronged you

Window drapes cover the shame that rains on me

My heart thundered like that of great storm

The tone of my voice skips like that of compact disc

       You need not be afraid—

I am the one that you never speak about

       I am the unmentioned hero

Now the world stands at the edge

Overlooking the valley is the shadow of my worries

Eyes everywhere watching and in hide of the bushes

Who am I for this great picture frame?

I know your inside as well as your outside

I break bread for you daily that mouth feed

Still I am the unmentioned hero

You ignore my existence for lack of your care

Instead you shun me on a wheel like a rollercoaster

You look the opposite way and talk to me in false pretense

It is unbecoming of the surrounding you cave me in

When you speak, you speak to me like puppet on the street

And deny me of the simplest warmth

I know, I am the unmentioned

Was not I who covered you when you were left for dry?

Words sent out wanted for public show

Was not I who defended you from the humiliations?

Where is the medal for what I have done for you?

Wipe the smile of your face because it does not suit you

I am your life stories, the tail that cover your hide

Now that you know, will you still dust me off?

Come back home to a place where you belong

    A Scream~

Echo is heard in the heart of Africa

Trumpet sounded in cities across Europe

The Asian beat their drums calling leaders to the table

State of the Union is addressed by the president

What is the urgency that we walk and run?

United Nations so colorful with its flag of nations

They sat there wearing the mask but with heart divided

A scream for justice was at the forefront

This was not God’s intention when he created humanity

    Whose war are we fighting?

An arm race as each aim to fire at long range

Is there an end to this never ending war we wage?

The tension is sharp enough to penetrate
