Rebecca Tibbs

My name is Rebecca Orias Kilgore Tibbs. I am 62 years old. I love to read and I never dreamed that I would be writing a book. After 9/11, 2001, I often thought of the heartache and devastation that all Americans had to deal with. Most of all, for the people of New York. So, I thought if I could put my thoughts on paper, then maybe I could understand some of what is happening to America, and just maybe I could help in some small way. I hate terrorism with all my heart and I wrote this book with an ending that I think will be received with surprise. I didn’t plan what I was going to write about. I just started to write and I wrote from my heart. I live in Pikeville Ky. I have been disabled for a number of years now and unable to work. I have a daughter Mary and a son Jonathan. I have a son Kermit that died when he was 20 years old. I have one granddaughter Katie and she is the light of my world. She also is teaching me how to master the computer, (or at least trying to). I live with my daughter Mary.

    CHAPTER ONE

A LMOST ONE WEEK UNTIL the tenth anniversary of the bombing of the World Trade Center, in a small town one hundred miles from New York called Ringer, twins Trevor and Angela about thirteen now, are walking home from school. Today was Friday and they were looking forward to the week end.

They were only three when the Twin Towers were bombed. They were playing in the living room while their mom Kathy was doing housework. Suddenly on the television the world was in chaos. Even though Trevor was only three, he was very intelligent. He watched as did Angela. As the destruction rang out, Trevor stared unable to look away. Momma, he cried. What is happening, is this real? Angela walks to the television and places her hands on the screen as the buildings were burning and collapsing to the ground. Angela goes to Trevor and places her arms around him saying Didn’t I tell you there was going to be a big fire? Yes you did but I thought you meant outside our house. Although Angela was only three she had dreams; not just any dream. Her dreams become reality. She had been dreaming of a big fire for the last couple of weeks but nothing happened. Just a simple morning finally found her fire. This is why all of the people in her dream were jumping out of windows, burning, and dying. Such dreams for a little girl.

Their momma took them both in her arms and tried to calm them down but she too was upset. She wanted to tell them to shut off the television but something held her back. They were all frozen in time not believing what was going on. Trevor turns to Angela, Why didn’t you tell someone about your dreams? Trevor screams at her, Why didn’t you try to save them? Angela sobs uncontrollably, her heart is breaking. She knew it was true. I didn’t know where to look, she tells her momma and her twin. I am so sorry momma, call them and tell them I did not know where to look! Something had blocked Angela from seeing where the fire was located. Why was it so hard to see? It was if someone knew I could see everything that was going to happen.

Kathy took Angela in her arms, her precious baby girl. It hurt so much to see her child in so much pain and agony. Kathy dared not to tell of Angela’s dreaming, a special ability she thought was such a huge burden for such a small child. She had known for a while about her daughter, what a special person she was. She did not want people to treat her differently; Trevor was the only one who knew. Trevor could also see the dreams. Angela had no idea of this and that is the way her momma wanted it. They sat on the floor crying helplessly. No one could imagine what the twins dreamed, no one.

Walking home from school, they were talking about the tenth anniversary of the bombings. Their secret was still theirs; no one knew. Their father had died in Iraq when they were three. He was killed by terrorists that were protecting the person behind the bombing, his name was Bin Laden. The men and boys who were old enough received combat training. They were shipped overseas to fight for their families and the people who were lost sum ten years ago on that September morning, sacrificing all for the freedom of America.

Over the next couple of years Angela had more dreams but none as vivid as the one of the Twin Towers. It seemed as if she had tucked them safely away; recalling them when need be.

There were no more nightmares about the bombings. Angela and Trevor did not let a day go by without checking the status of the war. America had been victimized and someone tried to destroy the United States. It was real; no waking up the next morning to find it was all just a dream. Angela vowed to stop them, how she wasn’t sure of. All she could do is wait. Growing older, the twin’s minds seem to join together, thinking as one. Justice will be served, we will have our dignity. Our freedom had been tested and no matter how long it would take, we would prevail. No one can take our freedom, we will survive and overcome the enemy. It will come down to two children, Angela and Trevor. They will aid the fall of the terrorists and Bin Laden, they will not hesitate. They will send them to hell where they belong. Our freedom will be up held, we will be victorious.

That night Angela had a very bad headache. Her momma gave her some aspirin and told her to lie down for a while. Suddenly she opened her eyes and wasn’t in her bed or her room. She woke up to find herself in the middle of the Grand Central Station. People were all around her; she began to walk slowly out of the doors. In her mind she could hear some of the conversations that were going on around her. She hears a boy about thirteen talking to someone about being thirsty and looks around until she finds him. The boy was with an older man who was carrying a briefcase. Jeffery popped into her head. He had a large backpack slung over his shoulder. The older man’s name was Kent. That’s not his real name, Angela thinks to herself. He looked as if he were in a hurry. He had Jeffery by the hand pulling him alongside. Angela was looking at them and the boy turned toward her. Looking straight into her eyes, Jeffery smirks. Angela could see fire in his deep black eyes. Angela’s head was pounding, she needed to close her eyes. The intensity in his eyes froze her in her stance. Angela knew something was wrong. No, no, no, not the dreams again. Please God, no more! Jeffery turned to the man and nodded. Kent knew what he wanted, he looked at the girl. As he looked into Angela’s eyes all she could see was evil. Kent and Jeffery knew she was different. Kent patted him on the head, Would you like something to drink? Jeffery nods and stops to retrieve a drink from his bag. Kent puts his hand out to stop Jeffery, No not that one. We can get something at the next store. Ok, he tells the man and Kent zipped up the bag.

Kent turns into an alley. Puzzled Jeffery asks, Where are we going? We are going to stop in here for some water, answered Kent. "Oh yea, water. says Jeffery as they disappear down the alley. Angela loses sight of them, she looks right then left. She see the alley. I have to find them, I know what they are planning, Angela says in her head. I have to stop them. Angela starts crying, I just have to!" Angela sits up in her bed with tears in her eyes. She is back in her room now. She flings her feet to the floor as the tears stream down her face. She knows what she has to do; she must stop them, no matter what. She owes it to the many people that died on that fateful day; to the many who died in the war defending our country. She was given a warning and she knows the daunting task facing her.

Her door opens and she jumps out of bed to see who it is. It is Trevor and he is standing outside her door. He looks at her and nods his head. He knows, she says to herself, he has known all along. Why didn’t you tell me you knew what was happening? she asks him. Because I did not want you to get hurt, I only saw what you saw in your mind. I did not know where or when all this was going to happen, Trevor tells her. For some reason we were given a warning, we must go to New York, says Angela. I know it in my heart, I saw that man and boy and I know what they are planning. I, no we, have to stop them! Ok, we can’t let mom know, we can leave her a note telling her we are going to the Animal Farm with our class from school. We will leave early in the morning before she gets up. Trevor we have to let someone know what is going to happen now before it is too late. No, says Trevor, it has to be this way. Don’t ask me why but it has to be this way!

He went over to her piggy bank that was on her dresser. How much money is in your bank? I don’t know, Angela tells him. I have be saving for like forever. He nods to her. Do you think that I somehow knew this was going to happen? Angela replies, "I don’t know. All I can tell you is that I cannot let all of those people die. We have to stop them, we can save them.
