Introduction: Shopetim,meaning judges or ruling leaders, It accounts for the period of Israel’s history between the death of Joshua and the ministry of Samuel.After the death of Joshua the Israelites repeatedly fell into apostasy,which was followed by oppressoins as invading nations exploited them economically.

Turning to GOD in repentance,the Israelites experinced deliverance through leaders divinely called to repulse the enemies.Oppressing nations during the era of the judges were Mesopotamians, Moabites,Philistines,Canaanites,Midianites, and Ammonites.The total number of years allotted to these leaders is 410. (1100 B.C.E.)(1450-1120 B.C.E.)

After the time of Joshua,with the passing of the years,children grew up who did not remember him.Sadley,the Israelites began to forget all their promises to serve GOD.They began to marry into foreign tribes and worship idols.They broke commandments and laws which GOD had given to Moses and which Joshua had taught them.But despite their failures and their sins,GOD still loved his people,and from time to time GOD sent brave leaders,"judges

These men and women helped the Israelites to give up their disobedient ways and turn back to GOD.
