The Snow People of Ickle Village

Far below the beautiful, snow covered mountains, beyond the dense forest, snuggled in the quiet, serene valley, lies tiny Ickle Village. The home to all snow people! Each year, new snow people come to settle in, build their homes and live the wonderful life given to them by the Power of the Mountains.
This little story evolved from my hobby of making, painting, decorating and selling miniature wooden snow people. While working on them, I imagine them doing different things, having different expressions and try to create them in that fashion. Many, many hours have been spent in this wonderful fantasy world of snow people.

THE CELEBRATION OF BEGINNING TIME

The bright, full moon drifted over the snow covered mountains making room for the morning sun. Far below in the dark, dense forest, small animals already scurried about in search of their breakfast.

Tiny Ickle Village would be celebrating its most important holiday of the year today and all the people were very excited. This was the day chosen to honor the life given by the power of the mountains to all snow people! This was the day new people would arrive from those mountains and begin their lives as all had since the very first Beginning Time!

Early morning sunlight came darting through the trees. Pops Ickle sat on the bench outside his hardware store enjoying all the hustle and bustle going on in the village. Everyone was excited about the arrival of the new folks who would be making the long journey from the mountains on this special day. Pops looked beyond the village and the dense forest at the beautiful snow covered mountains that gives life to all snow people! Pops chuckled as he thought back to when his twin sons were only six beginning times old.

Perched on a barrel at the counter in Pops hardware store, the boys were not chattering as usual. Is something wrong boys? Pops asked. You’re both awfully quiet today. We might be wondering about something papa, Bice told him. Yes papa, we might be, added Trice. Well now, I might be wondering what it is you might be wondering about, Pops said, hoping to get a smile from them.

When neither boy smiled or said anything more, Pops asked, Would you like to tell me? Perhaps I can help. Yes papa, we would, said Trice. Why do we have two names papa? asked Bice. Pops decided a little teasing was needed here for he did not like to see such concern on the faces of his adored sons.
