I grew up in South Africa, Soshanguve with my mother, twin sister and younger brother. I wrote my first short story at the age of nine doing my third grade in Haakdoorn primary school. I love reading and writing came natural to me. Ever since, I have continued to write both in English and other local languages. By the time I reached high school I wrote my first novel which was approved by one of my teacher Mr. Rammutlwa. I based my writings on personal experiences and daily events. I participated in different activities such as basketball, netball, debate and long distance marathons. My love for writing continued, as I entered numerous writing competitions for essays, poetry and short story. My first break and recognition was for my short story which won for the best category in a writing competition. When I reached University my passionate for writing grew even stronger. I majored in archaeology and anthropology which gave me the desire to discover ancient artefact, knowledge and study human behaviour. My first novel, Lucifer and the church is a controversial but a very enlightening book which touches on different subject. I’m 24 years of age, I enjoy hiking, camping, reading and travelling. I’m currently working on my Master degree in anthropology and also composing a journal on African myths, stories of creation and the ancient knowledge of our ancestors. I’m fascinated by the world we live in and the adventures of Katrina Van Wyk will continue in my next novel.

The wind strongly blows outside, the rain pours so hard as if it is the end of the world. It was frightening and scary at the same time. This kind of storm came uninvited even the climatologists did not predicate such thunders. Katrina walks in a room of darkness as her own shadows follows. There was light ahead, the light she kept on following slowly unsure of where it was leading her. The bright light glowed in darkness; it made her feel as though she was reaching to glory, joy and a place of success. She looked around to see the room, to make sense of her environment. But it was nothing but darkness that surrounds her. She felt as though she knew the place and she also made sense of the massive door where the light came from. It was not a bedroom or house it was massive, a place of significance yet she could not add it up. Katrina was curious of what she will find she continued to walk towards the lights. However, something was not right she kept on walking but never reached the destination. She starts to run towards this light but still the destination was far to reach. Something was wrong about this destination no matter how hard she runs she was unable to reach it. Katrina stops to record her thought to think where she came from before she was there. She stands firmly and tries to look back before a voice from nowhere whispers. The voice slowly said something in a language she did not speak. She tries again to look back and the voice repeated. It was like it was trying to stop her or tell her something. There was no point in listening to the voice Katrina had to take one good look from where she was coming from becoming she did not even know where she was going. Katrina slowly turns her head and a light blinds her eyes. She falls on the floor covers her eyes with her hands and screams my eyes, my eyes, I can’t see she screams. Katrina tries to open her eyes but could not see anything even the bright light that came in her directions. Her eyes were covered but darkness and nothing but darkness. She rolls all over trying to recall what has just happen. Eventually she falls so hard on the floor and opens her eyes. Katrina came back to her senses and realized that it was just a dream. She opens her eyes and stares at her hand. What just happened she whispered. She wasn’t blind she just had a dream that kept on haunting her for a month. Katrina stands up and stretches herself that was a hard fall from her queen size bed. She opens up the dark curtains in her bedroom and stares outside. It has been heavy raining but she did not even hear a drop of rain. Surprised she moves away from the window and takes her cell phone from the headboard. It was 08h06 am the hour when she is usually in her office writing a paper or out in the field collecting data.

Katrina was an anthropologist and writer who wrote articles and journals on taboo practices such as witchcraft, religious controversies and anything that interests her. Even so, she focused on more particular on the ancient beliefs of the African people and the taboo witchcraft tales which were told over the centuries. A Sangoma or a traditional healer MmaItsi in the Limpopo province was her main source of help. Katrina was not a typical woman fascinated by the mistral elements in the world. She mainly spends time researching on issues such as science, taboo rituals and different beliefs. She did not only consider herself an anthropologist but a spiritualist, naturalist and a woman who solves mysteries in this universe. She walks to the bathroom to freshen up before heading to meet with Dr. Pheko. He was very interested in her presentation a week ago about The ancestors walking among us: worshiping the gods. He wanted to see this young woman in person before he flies back to Cape Town. Even so, Katrina was excited but did not know what to except. She was very confident about her presentation and has done her research. The only question she asked rapidly was why a Doctor in theology wants to see her. This was a respected man of honour and power. He was very famous for his books on religion, DVDs on the true gospel. He was not only a theologist but was a pastor in a church he runs. He lectured theology in the University of Cape Town but resigned to fulfill his mission in the church. How come he wants to see a mere anthropologist who has nothing to do with religion? Katrina was not even a big fan of Dr. Pheko but heard about him and his work. She stares at her image in the reflection of the mirror. Dr. Pheko why would he want to see me? What is it that interested him to this work? she asked brushing her hair. She remembers that the aim of the presentation was on the gods in Africa and how ancestral worship began. It was not controversial but something she has always been fascinated about before the arrival of the Europeans in Africa and before Christianity.

The morning sun shines brightly outside as if it never rained last night. The meeting was in two hours in a local café. She nicely dressed in a long brown skirt and a spaghetti white t-shirt, she also wore her feather ears rings and bangles she brought in Kenya when she went on vacations. They were very unique and meant a lot for her. She had her short black hair in a ponytail and wore eyeglasses that made her light hazel eyes glow. She often asked questions about her ethnicity and identity. She had this flawless, golden caramel complexion, her hair texture was black and straight often grew faster than other kids. She preferred to have her hair in an 10 inch length and not very long to fit in. She was raised by her grandmother after both her parents died in a car accident when she was five years old. Her grandfather died ten years before she was born and was a Tswana traditional healer. Even so, her coloured grandmother spoke Setswana and Afrikaans. She considered herself black but was often mistaken to be colored because of the language she spoke and her physical appearance. The history or formation of the coloured population goes back to 1652. After the first European settled in South Africa in the Cape in 1652 they traded with the Khoisan people and the colony expanded. There was a collision between the Khoisan and the European, which eventually lead to the Khoisan losing power to the European. They were used for labour and sex. Therefore the children of these groups formed today’s coloured populations.

Katrina went to the kitchen to make a cup of coffee. It was an addiction she never leaves her house without drinking a hot cup of Jacobs coffee. She was far away in thoughts, thinking of her boy friend Dave. It has been a while since the two saw one another. But she was hoping he could drop by that morning before she meet with Dr. Pheko. I just wish you could come maybe I’ll be able to focus she said a bit nervous about the meeting. She took a sip from her coffee and glanced at the watch she was wearing. When she placed the cup on the kitchen counter the door bell rang. Katrina had no doubt in her mind that it was Dave the person she wished and hoped to see that morning. She opened the door and saw Dave who had a nice chocolate pigmentation, tall and very charming gentleman. Hi, stranger he said welcoming himself in. Katrina had no words this happens almost every time. She would think of something or someone and out of nowhere they will appear. It was weird and strange how the universe works. She believed that we are all psychics and possess some powers within ourselves whether you believed it or not. What on earth are you wearing? ‘he asked giving her a warm hug. I’m okay thank you she replied ignoring the question. The two of them went to the living room and Dave took a sit whist Katrina stood up. I’m having coffee would you like some? she asked. I don’t like coffee remember?’ he said. Katrina smiles and joins him on the couch. What would you like anything? Katrina asked. I’ll have you for breakfast he said. Katrina smiles and gives him a goofy face. ;So what’s up? Is there anything interesting happening? she asked taking a sit next to him. Actually there is, I will be going to the United Stated of America next week would you like to come? he joked. Katrina intensely faces him in shock and before she could say a word he interrupted. It’s work related I wanted to tell you before I go he said. So soon . . . I mean that’s great news Dave I wish I could come along but you know work and stuff she said .—It’s only a month I will dearly miss you, you know he said. Katrina blushes she did not want to get emotional or try to think of Dave’s absence. She immediately changes the subject and focuses on the meeting with Dr. Pheko.—I am meeting Dr. Pheko in this morning and I am a bit curious and nervous she said. You mean Solomon Pheko he asked.—Yes thee Solomon Pheko the pastor, the great writer on religion and stuff. I don’t know much about him but he attended my presentation last week said Katrina. Dave stood up in disbelief, What on earth does he want from you?’ he asked. For all I know I don’t trust nor like the man. He can be a corn artist for all I care.-But you don’t know much about him I mean I am going to find out reasons he wants to see me she added. Dave faces in Katrina’s direction. What’s so special about that presentation that he wants to see you? I mean I find it weird don’t you? he asked. Katrina also stands up and places her hand on Dave’s shoulder.- Don’t freak out Dave it is just a meeting she said. At first Katrina did not suspect anything but thought nothing about the meeting. There was nothing stranger or weird about Dr. Pheko. I don’t really know perhaps he has been attending my presentation and finds this one interesting she said. Interesting! He must want something from you something he does not have, don’t you think?’ asked Dave. Katrina raised an eyebrow and shakes her head. There could be nothing precious she has nothing that anyone would want. How did you even know Dr. Pheko anyway? she asked. Dave stares at his watch. I have to get going we will have this talk sometime he said. Please Dave tells me how did you get to know him? What do you think he wants from me?’ she asked. Just be careful big guys like him don’t just ask to meet any one unless they are after something he said. Before Dave could leave Katrina grabbed his arm,-Do you know him personally? I mean can you tell me not to go and I won’t she suggested. Im sorry babes but just be careful caring I don’t trust this so called good guys. They might be after what you have or you he said.-Do you know him? Did he do something . . . before she could finish Dave interrupted.- I just think he wants something you have that’s all he said. With astonishment Katrina tries to record events that took place the day before the presentation.

It was on the rainy morning of September the 3rd when she was busy writing her unpublished book. A book she has never breathe a word to anyone even Dave knew nothing about it. These books include all the presentations, personal experience and logic and analysis of the sciences and a church. She wasn’t sure whether or not it will make it on the shelves. She was basically writing about her experience and exposing the truth about her revelation. After typing she saved it her flashlight. There were no printing machine in the hotel so she had no choice but to save the documents in her apple laptop. Then she went over her presentation and felt asleep on the desk she was working on. There was nothing too complicated about the events before the presentation everything was normal, except for the dream she kept on having and the unpleasant feelings she had in the hotel room. She was woken by her cell phone on the bed. It was Zoe her best friend who was an archaeologist, she has just arrived in Johannesburg. She has been in the field in Botswana
