Marsha E. Hewitt-Barker
Marsha E. Hewitt Barker is a product of the 60’s: after graduating high school, she attended Northern Arizona University with studies in education; then traveled the world before settling down to become the perfect wife and mother. It’s amazing the twists and turns in one’s life when we are busy making plans! After her divorce, Marsha became active in Business & Professional Women and competed at state and national speaking events. Marsha and her daughter, Bethany Hart became almost inseparable; always mother and daughter, but always friends, too. Then came a dark night in June 1991; a knock on the door every parent dreads but is never prepared to receive. There was a car accident; alcohol was not involved. It was the night of Bethany’s 18th birthday. Marsha’s bright, beautiful daughter was gone in an instant. Somehow Marsha picked herself up again and continued with her work and her church activities, even going back to college. Ten years later, a friend “introduced” Marsha to a friend who lived in Colorado—one meeting, phone call kind of courtship. Gordon Barker traveled to Arkansas to meet the woman he’d been told lit a room by walking in it, this time with a red rose pinned to her sweater! Before long, Marsha was planning her move to Grand Junction, CO and planning her wedding. The pair celebrated their union with a trip back to Phoenix to share the joy with Marsha’s high school friends who are inordinately close. Gordon passed muster! Since then, this retired elementary school teacher, animal lover uses the skills she learned earning a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Radio and TV at the University of Central Florida; all the while doting on her husband and their two dogs, Henry and Rosie. In retirement, Marsha has made time to indulge in her hobby, writing short stories about her menagerie. The result is HENRY! One never knows where one’s life will take them; all one can do is say a prayer and hang on for the ride. Marsha E. Hewitt Barker is a woman of the West; used to hanging on. Enjoy her book!
