Experience is the best teacher some time in life. For me taking the wrong road in life lead me r back to the right road in the end. I feel my life and book can be a example how not to make the same mistakes I made. I know God had to let me go threw my life this way, but I diffidently could have made my life easier if I would have stayed on the path with him by my side. Some time we make things harder then they have to be and for ten years I did that. Growing up on the streets of Philadelphia then moving out on my own at 19 years old was hard. I didn't have any solid education. A high School diploma was not enough, but as I got older I did go back to school to get my Associates Degree in business/ criminal justice and licence in cosmetology. I felt like the change came to my life when I didn't have no where else to go ,but back to God.

Chapter 1

Getting out,

 Hard Head!!

Mann… . I gotta get out of this house, LaQuane was thinking to herself. My mom is getting on my nervous. Let me go play my Nintendo that will calm me down as she reached over to grab Super C one of her favorite games. LaQuane come here! Her mom calls her in the room. Can you iron my jacket and my shirt; I’m going to take a nap wake me up around 2:30. Okay, she plugs up the iron and looks down Elk… look at this dirt under my nails. While holding her hand up towards the sky starting to fumble with the nails. The iron should be warm by now as she picks it up and starts ironing; these wrinkles won’t come out as she pushes the iron back and forth. Let me leave the iron on there for a minute; thinking to herself. She picks the iron up and smoke starts coming up from the jacket. All . . . . Man I burnt her work jacket. I’m going to get a beaten! I know what I’ll do; switch it with the other jacket and iron that one. Let’s try this again as she grabs the other jacket off the hanger and starts to iron it; alright, finally I didn’t burn this one. Let me call Pattie; which was LaQuane’s best friend. Hey, what you doing? I’m talking to my brother. I might ride my bike down there later to come chill. I’ll call you back to let you know if I’m coming or not. I have to wake up my mom up for work. Is it 2:30 yet? Yeah. Let me call you back. Okay. Mom, wake up… okay I’m getting up! Can you help me get out of here, so I won’t be late for work? Sure mom. Which pocketbook you want? Switch everything to my black pocket book. Fasten this button on skirt. Alright come on!! Let me get your coat out as she walks down the hallway to the steps. Take the red one out for me; I’m right behind you. She ran to catch up to LaQuane. Don’t forget to wash the dishes, before I get home. I’ll see you later. See ya Hubby! Okay. About time she left; let me go do these dishes now, so I can go outside. Walking to the kitchen and grabbing the phone on her way. Hello is Andre home? Which was LaQuane’s boyfriend? Hold on… . Hey Andre, get the phone? Hello, What you doing? Nothing chilling… . Oh I’m on my way to your house. Hurry up… whatever Bye

Dad, can I go outside? Is your homework done? Yes, well yeah go head; make sure your back before your mom gets home. Okay, Can I take my bike? Yes. LaQuane goes and get’s her bike from the basement. See you when I come back dad!! She hollered into the sun porch.

Remember 10 o’clock! I got it dad, thank you. She went down the steps of her house. It’s nice out here as she took a deep breath; While Riding down the streets in and out of traffic; she starts to pedal faster as she thinks about Andre and how much she misses him.

Finally I’m here I made it as she pulled up to the house. What are you doing outside? I’m just coming back from the store. Bring your bike in the house. Can you get it for me? Alright, first give me a hug. Hello Mr. Howar, Hello, how are you? I’m Fine. Come on let’s go to the room and play sonic then go to the park. Those eyes, As LaQuane was staring in his face. They are so cute. I know!! Whatever, big head! I’m Sonic as they start to play the game your hedge hog oh as they run threw the loop on the game. Dag… . I lost all my coins. Ha-ha shut up you’ll get them back stop crying!!! Did you miss me? Nope, not at all; well why you are here now. I was bored. Um hmm; you know you missed this handsome face!! Give me a kiss. Mwah as she leaned in to kiss him. You beta had! That’s why I’m not kissing you anymore. Stop Acting like that I’m only playing. Let’s go outside. They walked down the stairs and looked out the window, it’s snowing. Let’s go to the park and slide down the hills. We need some cardboard. I’ll grab some from around the back. I’ll race you, Andre said? I have to get a head start. Nope, that’s cheating. I’m going to catch up with you anyway, go ahead. You know I run fast anyway laughing at her. Wait what time is it? It’s 9 PM. I have a half and hr. as she took off running. I’m sliding down the hill first. Give me a push as she put’s the cardboard on the ground at the top of the hill. You ready? Yup, here we go. Ah… . she yelled all the way down the hill. Andre met her at the bottom of the hill. That was so much fun but my butt hurts. You stupid! I’m bout to go home now my mom will be home soon. I don’t want you to go. I know, but I have too. You know my mom be acting crazy as they start laughing together. I’ll try to call you when I get in, if I can. They walked back to the house and LaQuane get’s her bike. I will see you later. Alright, I got to hurry up and get home; riding her bike fast as possible to her house. She pulled up and ran in the house with her bike. Get that bike in the basement, her dad said. I told you bout coming back, so late!!!!! I’m sorry dad!! I was riding as fast as I could!! Get ready for bed. I’m as she leaned down and smelled her clothes. Elk… I smell like outside. She goes into the bathroom and washes up and goes in my room. She starts looking around her room for her pj’s and jumped in the bed while putting them on. The door bell should be ringing right about. Ring . . . . There she goes LaQuane said to her self. LaQuane’s dad opened the door. Hey… . , Hello, how was work? Good. Where is LaQuane? She’s in the bed sleep. Oh okay as she walked up the steps. LaQuane closed her eyes as tight as possible as she heard her mom walking down the hallway. Her mom walked in her room; get up your not sleep come roll my hair up. Yawning like she was really sleeping. How was work mom? It was long as she putted on her night gown.

Get the rollers… . I want all the rollers going to the side and the back going straight down. Like this pointing to the direction she wants them to go? LaQuane starts to roll her hair. Wait; let me look in the mirror. Yeah, that’s right. I’m almost done. There we go as she places the last roller in her head. I’m going back to sleep now mom, No… not yet massage my back. LaQuane sucks he teeth, you have a problem!!?? I’m tried. Well just for a little while it won’t take long. LaQuane starts massaging and her mom falls to sleep. Thank God, let me go to bed now while I can as she tipped toed into her room. Thank you, God for another day. Amen

Beep, Beep, Beep the alarm went off. I gotta get up as she rolled over in the bed. Kenny comes in the room get up, it’s time for school. Leave me alone… . , as she pulls the covers over her head. Kenny leaves out the room. Another day, she takes the covers off her head and stares at the ceiling. Thank You, Jesus for waking me up. She washed up; puts her clothes on and walked into the kitchen to get a bowl of cereal. Kenny do we have any sandwich bags? Look in the cabinet. Alright, I’m bout to be late for school looking at the clock on the wall. Let me get out of here. She grabs her coat and runs out the door to the bus stop. LaQuane get’s on the bus and see’s her friend. Hey, Kia you know we got Ms. Seymou today again… , I thought Ms. Green would be back; me too.

Come on our stop is next. Hurry up LaQuane we’re going to be late. I’m coming; while running to the school. I have to go get some candy for the store. Wait until our lunch break!!!! Yeah you right. Now we going to have a pop quiz all . . . . man… . Everyone take out a sheet of paper. Name all the colonies? And pass you papers up. Man I can’t remember all of them. Pattie let me see your paper? No! You’re going to get me in trouble. After you finish taking your history text book out; Brand can you start reading on pg.152 Brand opened up his book. You know what, Ms. Seymou says. I changed my mind it’s almost time for recess. Everyone go on break. Kia, walk me to the store! Hell no!! You ain’t getting me in trouble. Stop being a punk… , Whatever, I’ll be back! LaQuane ran to the store. I got to hurry up and get back to school. Can I get one-hundred chews and fifty big blows as she put here money on the counter… . ? LaQuane snatched the candy off the counter and ran back to class. LaQuane you’re late from break! Sorry, I was in the bathroom. Well have a seat. Pattie want to buy some candy off of me. Sh… . as she shook her head side to side. Brad, buy some candy off of me. LaQuane what did I just say; give me that candy. Does everyone know that you are not suppose to have candy in class?! YES… . Open up your text books now… . What page was that Brad? It was pg. 152. I’m getting my candy back; LaQuane whispering to Kia. While we are reading write down the definitions on the side of the page. I’m tried LaQuane ; put her head down and falls to sleep. Wake up LaQuane, class is over Pattie said! Is it lunch?? Yeah, let’s go… . Go head I’ll catch up with you. Everyone leaves out of the class LaQuane going in the teacher draw and takes her candy out and puts it in her bag fast as possible; she ran out of the class room and down to the cafeteria to the lunch line. Where is your lunch ticket? Right here . . . . peanut butter and jelly?! Elk, can I have a juice? Yes only one! Come on let’s go outside Pattie and play Chinese jump rope. They get outside and start to play. One, Two, Three, Four… on it, off it, around it, you messed LaQuane my turn pattie said. Y’all… corny… . I’m going to play wall ball… . the bell rings. Everyone line up!! DAG… . recess over already!! LaQuane Walked to the back in line. At least we only have a few more classes before we get out. Pattie wait for me as she is runs up the steps! Have a seat Ms. Seymou say’s. We are going to pick up where we left off. Wait let me grab a pen; as she reached in the top desk drawer. Something is missing?! LaQuane where is that candy at?? I don’t no, why you asking me!! Okay, who took the candy out of the desk??? They start looking around; don’t answer all at once!!! LaQuane let me see your bag??? She sides, hm . . . She walked up to Ms. Seymou and slowly and gives her the book bag. What is this?? You know you are getting a pink slip and expelled. Tears started pouring down LaQuane face. Go to the principal office, and sit on the yellow bench. LaQuane what are you here for? Principal James asked. Ms. Seymou took my bag of candy from me and I stole it back from her out of her desk. Okay, so you are suspended for a week. A whole… . week??!!!! Yes!! Call your parents to come pick you up She walks in the office picks up the phone and start dialing Hey Dad. Hi dad can you come come and pick me up. Why? I just got suspended from school. For what, LaQuane? I had some candy in my bag and my teacher took it from me and I took it back when it was recess time. LaQuane you know better I know dad, please don’t tell mommy. How many days are you suspended for?? A whole week; what are you going to do for a whole week? I’m going to go over my friend Pattie house until school is over. LaQuane this is the last time!!! You hear me?! Yes dad! I’ll be there shortly. Ask she walked out the office the bells rings for dismissal from school for the day. Pattie comes running up to her. What happen?! What happen?! I got suspended for a week. Wow, your mom is coming to get you? No, my dad; now you know my mom will kill me if she has to come up here. There is my dad I have to go Pattie. I’ll call you; Alright. Where is the principal? In his office; do I have to talk to him? No. I can leave; you just have to sign this, before I come back next Monday. She passes a pink slip over to him. Let me see that; he snatched it from her. Come on let’s go to the van. Did you even think about what you doing? This says she was talking to you several time threw out the day; while he was shaking the paper in his hand. How many time does she has to say be quite?? Hun??!! Once; well you better act like it next time!

Go in the house, here take this and put it in your bag. Make sure you have this next week when you go back to school. Hey mom, where is the tranpass? Right here in my pocket. What you doing home, so early? Oh we got out early for the day. I left my sweater up stairs. Can you go get it for me? Where is it at? It’s on my bed. LaQuane runs up the stairs. Come on, LaQuane I have to go! I’m coming now! What took you so long; every time I send you up stairs, you take forever! I had to go to the bathroom first. Well you know I have to go to work!! Sorry!

I’ll see you when I get in. Mom, can I go to church tonight? If Kenny is goes with you. I can’t never go no where by myself. What did you say? Nothing! Where is the phone?? I’m out of here! She starts dialing numbers. Hey Pattie you going to be home? Yeah; I’m on my way down there now. Are you sure you’re not going to get in trouble. ain’t nobody here, but me I’m bout to get my bike out of the basement now. I’ll see you when you get here. She walked to the basement and the phone ringed. Hello, What you doing? Hey light eyes! You know your not suppose to call here. Yeah, Yeah, Yeah . . . your mom home? Nope! I’m coming over oh… . No… . you ain’t!! I’m going over Pattie house. Why you not coming to see me?? I’ll try, Love you; Love you too! That Boy is crazy! This bike is heavy, as she lifted it up the steps. Where are my keys?! Oh here they are. I need to clean that bike it’s dirty. I see what Martin Luther King was talking about free at last!!! She starts riding down the street to Pattie house! This bike is the best thing that could have ever happen to me. Pattie!!! Where you at? Right here why you yelling on the porch!! I don’t know I’m just glad to be out! I have something to tell you. What?! I’m pregnant! What, stop Lying!! No, I’m serious wow okay, so what are you going to do??! I’m keeping it!! What did you mom and brother say?! There were upset, but they understand. Come on, let’s go to the store! I want so chips and a hug. Your boyfriend is the father? Yup… You scared or course. Here it’s on the counter as she placed her money one the counter.
