We are blessed when we receive a directive from God, hear that directive, understand from whence it came and in obedience act upon it.

God bestowed such a blessing upon me when He directed me to approach the Women of Pinn Memorial Baptist Church and share with them another way in which we could collectively praise Him. And that is exactly what Our Deliverance: A Volume of Trials and Triumphs by Women of Pinn Memorial does. It praises God by sharing written testimonies of how He has worked in our lives.

From the very beginning, the process of securing testimonials from our women, through to publication, can only be characterized as a work of love in progress. Our committee simply called itself the Sharing Project Committee. We wanted the sisters of Pinn Memorial to share their experiences that glorified God. We hoped the readers would see themselves in one of the testimonies and have a light bulb moment in recognizing that it was God who pulled them through a difficult situation.

The committee gelled immediately. All of the women on the committee we’re excited and inspired by our project. We knew it had to be the hand of God that allowed us to work so well together. Our diversity of backgrounds and professions provided a pool of ideas and expertise that was hard to match. However, the common bond that we shared—a bond that grew even stronger as our project progressed—was the desire to praise God.

Before reading the testimonials, the committee struggled with a title. After everyone had read testimonials, the title came to us within ten minutes. Who else but Jesus can deliver us by turning our trials into triumphs?

    Project Chairperson

    Acknowledgments

    and Thank You’s

Our first acknowledgment and thanks is to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We thank Him for being God. We thank Him for His loving blessings. And we thank Him for giving us the privilege of being involved in this project and for guiding us successfully through it.

We are deeply appreciative of Pastor Jacob L. Chatman’s unswerving support of this project. He instantly embraced and championed a volume that praises God.

This project was completed under the aegis of our Women’s Fellowship Ministry. Imani Wilson Brown, chair of our Women’s Fellowship Ministry, gave an immediate yes when we approached her with the idea of a volume of praise testimonials.

It is real dedication when a committee works on a project for eighteen months and remains faithful to the task. Following is Our Sharing Project Committee. They deserve an immense amount of gratitude and credit for a job well done.

While I acted as the point person, Beverly Burgis and Karen Graves were my co-chairs and played an integral role in the successful completion of our project. Beverly and Karen, thank you so very much.

Without the Women of Pinn Memorial who submitted testimonials, there would be no volume. We are appreciative of your willingness to reveal how God has worked in your lives, and your capacity to care enough to share with your sisters and others.

We needed a lot of help with this undertaking. We thank the following individuals who completed the initial editing of the testimonials.

We give a grateful thank you to Attorney Beverly Towns Williams. She provided invaluable legal advice and service.

    Introduction

    By Imani Wilson Brown

As Chairperson of the Women’s Fellowship Ministry at Pinn Memorial, I was thrilled to be asked to write a few words for the opening of this book. When Vi Rogers, previous chairperson, came to me with this idea, we agreed that it would be wonderful to use our own life experiences to help other sisters. Sisters supporting and encouraging each other is an important part of the mission of the Women’s Fellowship Ministry.

The Women of Pinn wrote this book for sisters at home and in the community. Their individual testimonies serve first, to give glory to God and then to motivate, move, mature, mold, transform, teach, heal, breathe, open up wounds, heal wounds, restore, and resuscitate sisters who are in need of a word from a sister. Sisters, mothers, grandmothers, aunts, nieces, and friends have, in my lifetime, nurtured me and matured me. My experience has been that when sisters gather, positive things are about to happen.

Sisters you have labored long and hard to create a loving gift to all who read this book. You have indeed used the talents that God has given you to glorify Him. My prayer is that these writings will inspire someone to take a closer walk with God.

    To God be the glory.

I am a living testimony of what God can do, having served Him for most of my adult life. I can testify to His goodness, to His mercy, and to His everlasting kindness.

It is like a mountain climber going through the valley on his way to the top—one never can reach the top of the mountain without going valley traveling. So, let me say that I have been through the valley. I have stumbled and groped in the darkness. I have experienced extreme loneliness and fear. I have been broken, not knowing when the journey would end. But, one thing is for sure—I knew that when it ended, things would be better because I knew that I was being guided, prepared, and strengthened for a purpose. I knew it was God’s purpose and for God’s glory. He brought me through and I am a better woman today as a result of it. I am a better preacher today. I am a better representative today. I am a better person today because God had a purpose and plan for me. He permitted me to be broken so that I would learn how to lean not into my own understanding but to lean on Him. Sisters and brothers,
