The ChakraKey was created from years of research on the topics of love and chakras. This book is not intended to be a comprehensive exposition about chakras, but a User Guide for the human spiritual being.

I offer many thanks to my friend Jim Byer, for setting me on the path to love, and for sharing his great wisdom about the natural sciences and our bodies’ natural drives. Thanks also to my friends Vlad Ghiulamila, Nayan Bliss, Sandra Hartwell, and Susan Robertson, for your most valuable help in exploring with me the deeper meaning of life and love, and to Sheila Moore of Aura Explorations and Savitri Simpson, for information about chakras and the human aura.

It should be noted, the study of chakras is a science of the mystics, and there is a variety of opinion as to the function and purpose of our inner design. The ChakraKey and ChakraSynergy symbols bring us more pieces of the puzzle, advancing our understanding our Divine nature.

How I Found Love

As sales manager of a small graphic design company, I enjoy the good fortune of having my office located near the beach in Southern California. Back in 2002, I spent many a lunch hour walking on the beach with my friend Jim. We would discuss politics, religion, and current events of the day. Jim is a renaissance man, who in many ways is the smartest person I have ever met. As we set off for our walk one particular afternoon, I had a burden to share. I had recently observed abortion protestors at a nearby location, holding large signs with pictures of aborted fetuses. The images were graphic and horrendous. I was deeply affected by these scenes. Discouraged by the complexity of the abortion issue, I was looking forward to talking with Jim about this most complex and perplexing matter.

As we set off for our walk that afternoon I said, Jim, there just doesn't seem to be any answer to the abortion issue. Both sides make valid points. Both sides seem right, yet they cannot both be right. There must be some reasonable answer to this complicated issue.

Without giving the matter much thought, Jim said, It's easy, you make LOVE first. F.I.R.S.T. is an acronym Jim came up with that stands for Fair, Integral, Related, Systems of Thought. I did not grasp the meaning of his acronym for a while. Jim explained further. Love weighs all things. The only fair way to address the abortion issue is to look at each and every pregnancy on an individual basis. There are just too many circumstances surrounding each pregnancy to make a hard and fast rule that would apply to every circumstance.

This reasoning certainly made sense to me. How could we make a single rule that would apply to every pregnancy? In the world of right and wrong, it would be convenient to have a black and white rule stating, ‘this is right and that is wrong.’ Unfortunately, we live in a complex world, with complex issues that require a greater wisdom and responsibility from each person. There are many important dilemmas we face in life that require a depth of understanding and wisdom. It is only through the eyes of love, that we can access the great depth, width, and breadth of Divine wisdom we need to help us make the most important decisions of our lives.

I learned something that day that had never before occurred to me. Love is the answer, and love can weigh all things. This new revelation was an aha moment for me. If love was the answer for the abortion issue, imagine all of the other issues that love might resolve. So what is love? I could not define love in that moment. I knew however that love is a subject worth further investigation. Could the answer to the many issues we face in life be as simple as love? The idea seemed plausible. With a newly piqued curiosity, I made a decision to look into this matter of love.

Putting the Pieces Together

For the next ten years, I spent many of my waking hours contemplating love. Through books, conversations, experiences, and writing, I began to envision a book about love. Knowing the value of good visual imagery, my first thought was to make a picture book illustrating the virtues of love. What could be more telling of love than a photo of a mother holding her young child? The more I learned of love, the more books emerged from my imagination. The Virtues of Love book evolved into Conditions of the Heart, and that turned into The Love Manifesto, then Earth School, and finally ChakraKey. With each new revelation of love came a fresh perspective and application for love’s wisdom.

I made the connection between the chakra system and the menorah in 2010, after I was about eight years into my study. I learned of the seven-candle menorah from my friend Jim who would often speak of the Jewish menorah and the significance of number seven. I discovered the relationship between the menorah and the chakra system by simply turning an image of the menorah sideways, and placing it next to an image of the human chakra system. While looking at the two images, I noticed how the center mast of the menorah aligned with the heart chakra, and its branches aligned with the upper and lower chakras. Upon closer inspection of the branches, a map emerged of the interconnecting points between the upper and lower chakra system. I knew then, that these two symbols were meant to be together.
