About this ebook

Gift From A Magical Frog is about a teenage boy, his family, his dog, his friend and a magical frog he gets to know. When the frog becomes a talking frog the adventures begin! The Frog has good ideas and a Great Plan. On one night the Frog explores inside the house and falls asleep in a remote control truck. Lessons are learned and eventually the dog gets shorter ears; the magical way, in a magical place. A crow "pops in" for a short stay and the frog outwits him. Another character the boy calls "ratty thing" adds more humor to the story. The Gift from the frog becomes known at the end when the frog reveals his great knowledge and wisdom about people. After that there is a magical ride that tops any roller coaster ride ever taken. Hints at the main theme (The Gift) are carried throughout the story.

Although this story is completely fiction, "Gift From A Magical Frog" provides a good "life lesson." It is suitable for children, young at heart adults and appropriate for any age!

I think I am qualified to have written my two childrens' books due to my Creative Writing ability. I also have always enjoyed English and got A's in English in school. I took English and Creative Writing in college as well. I am also certified at Read West, Albuquerque, NM to teach English as a second language. Read West helps non-English speaking people learn to read and speak English. For two years I taught a young woman how to read and speak English. When I met her she did not know a single word in English. I reside in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. I am married to a kind and wonderful man, Michael Korotky. Together we have 3 dogs and all of them were rescued. I am a self-taught, professional fine art artist. I was fortunate to have been mentored by two great artists for a total of 2 years. My favorite subjects to paint are florals and pets. Along with this I also play piano. Altogether I had piano lessons for 7 years. My favorite music to play is Classical, Ragtime and Hymns. The second Children's book I wrote, titled Abbey's Story, is about our dogs. It is based on actual events this Basset Hound performed while my husband and I were away from our house. Abbey is a clever, intelligent dog with a marvelous sense of smell. She creates her own fun in the absence of her owners. Sometimes Abbey is accompanied by Cobby, our first Basset Hound. The story is written with humor injected to make it funny for both children and adults alike.

    CHAPTER ONE

    Ruben and His Family

It was early in April, just before everything started growing up green. Ruben was a kind hearted, well behaved boy whose parents owned an attractive, long ranch style house in Limbwood Knots, New York. Their house was near the city. Not too near, just far enough away so there were no sidewalks to shovel in the Winter and no houses close enough to look into a window to see what the neighbors were watching on television in the evening. In the Summer you didn’t have to worry if the grass grew a few inches above the accepted two inch high rule of the city dwelling houses. The house had a large yard that Ruben’s Dad had landscaped to perfection by himself. Lermon Hapnet believed in hard work and would never hire a friend or pay a company to come and care for the property. In the front of the house there were some neatly trimmed hedges, a beautiful stone walkway leading to the front entrance door, a pretty Magnolia tree and rose bushes of various colors. In the backyard there was a perfectly arranged rock garden containing many large and beautifully colored rocks. There were assorted plants and flowers growing in-between the pretty rocks. Also, a large grape arbor reached toward the sky and supported many concord grapevines.

Each year, in the fall, when the grapes ripened, Bonnie Hapnet made grape jam from an old recipe her grandmother used that included stepping on the grapes with bare feet. Sometimes Bonnie also made a little grape wine. The wine was nice to have on the table for holidays or a special dinner. It looked pretty in the long stem glasses. Ruben wasn’t old enough to drink wine, but he wondered how it would taste. Ruben was going to be 14 years old in November, which put him many years away from the legal drinking age.

Ruben was tall for his age and slender. He had wavy, dark brown hair with large blue eyes and a nice smile. His nose was slightly bigger than he thought it should be, but it didn’t interfere with his face looking nice. He was trying to train his hair to cover a small portion of his forehead to hide a few red spots that seemed to be popping out. Ruben was in good physical shape for a boy his age. He was very active and had been studying martial arts since he was nine years old.

Beckne was 11 years old with curly brown hair, bright blue eyes, freckles and lips that were a little too wide. She had a cute smile that brought dimples to her cheeks. Everyone she met gave her compliments about her dimples. Beckne was average size for her age and always looking for adventure.

Beckne was okay for a sister, but being younger, she sometimes got between Ruben and his friends. At times that really annoyed him. Like the time he was studying homework assignments at their house with a pretty girl he knew from school and Beckne ran up to him with something in her hand.

What are you doing? asked Ruben.

I just came out to ask why you left your underwear on the bathroom floor?

At once Beckne opened her hand and using both hands held up the underwear in front of Ruben’s face stretching them as far as possible to make them look bigger. Beckne dangled them back and forth all the while laughing. The girl from school was laughing too. Ruben felt too embarrassed to laugh. He just felt angry with his sister and loudly told her so.

GET out of here and LEAVE us alone! said Ruben.

Ruben decided to speak with his mother later. That night when Ruben was laying in bed he couldn’t help thinking about how much Beckne could annoy him. He wondered why he had to have a younger sister. She was always getting away with making him feel stupid or foolish and always in front of one of his friends. Maybe he would put something in her bed to scare her. He didn’t want Mom and Dad to get mad at him, but, after all, Beckne had started it hadn’t she? It wasn’t the first time she had pulled a prank on him. He was entitled to his privacy
