    Foreword

Today we live in a world that is hurtling along at breakneck speed seeking to acquire more and more knowledge and information. It has almost become the norm to know what is going on in people’s lives at all times of day or night in every nation of the world. News, information and facts—we can’t get enough of them. You would think that with all this information and education our world would be so much better off, yet the reverse seems to be the sad truth.

It is not knowledge that makes a nation or generation great. It is Wisdom. You can have all the knowledge in the world yet have no understanding of how to use that knowledge in the best way for the betterment of society. On the other hand, Wisdom knows how to handle life. Knowledge can bring you great wealth, but without Wisdom that same wealth meant to bless you can end up destroying you.

History records the tragic true stories of some of the most talented people in the world whose lives were cut short all because they did not nurture the Wisdom that would have protected them and given them a long and pleasant life. The Bible says:

Happy is the man who finds wisdom, …for her proceeds are better than the profits of silver, and her gain than fine gold. She is more precious than rubies, and all the things you may desire cannot compare with her. Length of days is in her right hand, in her left hand riches and honor. Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace.

    Proverbs 3:13–17 nkjv

Therefore, it is wonderfully refreshing to find a book such as A Heart fof Wisdom that has not been written to try to entertain the reader or even impress you with even more revelation and Bible knowledge, which we already have in abundance. Instead, Pamela Pearson has labored all her life for this one moment—to lay before us Wisdom that will guide us, heal us, and keep us from harm, like a lamp to our feet in the midst of dark and stormy days.

I have known Pamela Pearson and her husband, Pastor Michael Pearson, for many years and they both have a heart for giving and being a blessing to others.

Pamela’s love continues to reach out to care for people even through her own darkest moments in life. I wholeheartedly recommend this book of hers to you and know your life will never, ever be the same once you have read it and applied it to your own life.

    Preface

Over thirty years ago, our church, The Living Word Church of Sylacauga, Alabama, moved into a building we had bought on thirty-five acres of land on Highway 280. There is major traffic on this highway, going to Birmingham, Alabama, which is northwest of Sylacauga. The property we bought originally belonged to Avondale Mills, a former textile manufacturing plant. It was their cloth outlet. In the front was a sign board that advertised sales and such. It became my job in the church to come up with sayings for that board that would minister to the passing motorists. The entire time we worked on the building to redesign it for our congregation, people stopped by, wanting to buy Avondale cloth. So the first Sunday we were in our new building, the sign outside read, Open Sundays.

To make sure the signs were biblically based, I began to keep notes when we went to Bible conferences or pastors’ meetings or heard teaching and preaching in person or on tape, CD, or videos. (I never used the speakers’ books to get these sayings; that is called plagiarism.) And sometimes God would drop something into my heart—even while I was asleep—and I would instantly wake up so I kept a pad, pencil, and flashlight next to my bed to write them down. Over the years, numerous people have told our church how much our signs blessed them.

One day, a woman stopped by the church while my husband and I were there to let us know how our sign had impacted her life. At that time an insurance company in our town had a huge ad campaign with big billboards that displayed the statement, We have a policy against cancer. So I had put on the church’s billboard, Jesus has a policy against cancer! He HEALS! The woman told us she was driving to Birmingham weeks earlier because she had been diagnosed with cancer and was on her way to see the doctor. That sign really caught her attention. She believed what the sign said, and weeks later, she was cancer-free. (Thank you, Jesus!)

In the beginning, all these sayings were just for the church’s sign board, so I never put down their source. (Actually, everything said was from the same source—the Holy Ghost.) The Holy Ghost gives us knowledge and the wisdom of how to use it. I have no way to thank all the men and women of God (including my husband) who have shared their knowledge and wisdom with us over the years. Some of them are already in Heaven, and I will be able to thank them there someday. But now I have in book form the sayings that have blessed people driving by our church so that more and more folks can be ministered to each and every day.

This is not a book to read from cover to cover in one sitting, and it is not a promise box. It is a group of sayings that can impact your life on a daily basis. If you are struggling in some area, God has a Word for you that was given through His men and women.

I think about this book like the Bible says to read Psalms —the word selah often is used in that book to tell the reader to take time and pay attention to what is being said. I encourage you to go through A Heart of Wisdom the same way. It’s not a race to see how quickly you can read it. It’s a time to let God’s Truths flow over you and calm your inner man, no matter
