John W. Blake was born September 17, 1925 in Manchester, New Hampshire, and  went to be with the Lord January 2, 2010.  John became a Christian while serving in World War II.  Following his military service, John attended Gordon College in Massachusetts.  He also took classes from Luther Rice Seminary correspondence and Golden Gate Seminary Extension. He pastored two circuits of three churches while in Maine from 1952 to 1964.   After traveling to Utah, he met and married Margaret Grace Ward on May 14, 1966.  They had two children and three grandchildren.  While in Utah, John started and pastored several churches.  John and his wife were appointed missionaries in 1974 to the Ute Indians through the North American Mission Board.  In 1983, John and his family relocated to Idaho, where he started new churches until his retirement in 1991.

    INTRODUCTION

    For centuries, questions were asked as to what the Bible teaches about the end of the world, and countless times, my inner thoughts did not conform to what answers were provided. In order to reveal God’s gigantic, challenging plan to the world, it seemed necessary first to have all factual biblical material on hand, recognize the Bible’s use of figurative and symbolic words, and then, guided by the Holy Spirit, allow the Bible to do the teaching to those interested in God’s plan. It was after the reading and the studying of the Revelation that the realization came that this book not only discusses the past, but the present and the future.

    The purpose is to focus on the Messiah, Jesus Christ, as the main person, although many thoughts are encompassed, from the Old Testament to the final judgment of the lost at the great white throne. The content is laid out, from the foundation of the two witnesses, the first coming of Christ, and the tribulation that ends with the angels at Christ’s second coming, followed by God’s wrath on the lost. The plan is to allow the Bible to not only do the teaching through mainly a question and answer method, but also through the emphases of certain related thoughts. Thereby, the reader may not only be strengthened with an understanding of the biblical continuity of its subjects and topics, but by their clearness. Because of its popularity, its beauty, and its clarification of words, the King James version of the Bible and Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance of the Bible have both been used. Kindly observe the accompanying scriptures in the book.

    Note that the two witnesses are identified. In both the testaments of the Bible, Satan’s authority as destroyer is established by Christ’s words. A rebellion against God by the Devil and his demons begins at the birth of Jesus Christ and continues until Christ’s ascension to heaven. After that, a catastrophic battle, containing unknown happenings, between both Michael’s angels and the Devil’s demons occurs in heaven, which results in the expulsion of the latter down to earth. There, the Devil and his demons cause to any Jew or Gentile, who believes in the Lord Jesus Christ, the experience of persecution or tribulation (Matthew 13:21). Also according to the original language, the Devil did not persecute those other Jews but pursued them. Then all of God’s people from Old and New Testament times up to the second coming rise to heaven with Christ and the angels, leaving the lost on earth where they experience the wrath of God Almighty. The book reveals the Beast, the False Prophet (or Antichrist), and the whore. In addition, the image of the Beast is identified. The book includes prophetic Old Testament thoughts of the Messiah along with His fulfillment of those thoughts while on earth. Further, the whole emphasis of the book is on the symbolic Seventieth Week and its three and a halves that are followed later by its chronology. (Both my wife, Margaret, and I are Southern Baptists who went out to start and to strengthen works in the states of Utah and Idaho.)

    Note Revelation chapters 1–3. Because of being exiled by the ancient Roman Empire on the rocky island of Patmos, the Apostle John experienced great tribulation (Revelation 1:9). He was further given the Revelation, which first contains a description of the Christ, and is followed by an account of seven types of churches that are typical of today’s churches.

    Further note chapters 4–5. When going to heaven in the Spirit, the Apostle John saw God the Father in all His glory. Then John beheld the ascended slain Christ. Having all authority, He is the only one able to take the sealed book. The opening of the sixth seal onward to its end is the rest of the magnitude of the Word. Its subjects and topics shall be explained in detail.

    CHAPTER I

    WHAT ARE THE TWO WITNESSES?

    Revelation 11:1–13

    Introduction

    What is possessed by God, stands before Him, has His power to stop rain in its time, is able to strike the earth as often as it will, has one testimony and one mouth, and torments those on the earth? These and other unusual signs must be heeded to know whom—or what—the two witnesses are. The book of Revelation has many figurative and symbolic words. Therefore, the question should be asked, whether the two witnesses are human beings or that which is beyond humanity? As the study unfolds, one thought at a time it will be revealed the two witnesses are not human beings, but are the Law and the Prophets, or the Word of God as unveiled by the Bible. . Look at where the Lord is leading you with His Word, the Bible!

    Can Moses and Elijah be the two witnesses?

    And if any man will hurt them, fire proceedeth out of their mouth, and devoureth their enemies: and if any man will hurt them, he must in this manner be killed. These have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy: and have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to smite the earth with all plagues, as often as they will (Revelation 11:5–6).

    Many surmise Moses and Elijah could be the two witnesses because either one or the other had power over plagues, rain, or fire. God did use Moses to inflict ten plagues on the Egyptians (Exodus 7–12). He also used Elijah to send fire and stop rain (2 Kings 1:10,12; 1 Kings 17:1). But interestingly, the two in the book of Revelation are revealed as two witnesses that have just one mouth, one testimony, and are killed by a Beast, which does not appear to relate to Moses or Elijah. Each one had a mouth and a testimony, and neither were killed by a Beast, either literally or symbolically (Deuteronomy 34:5–6; 2 Kings 2:1,11; Revelation 11:5,7).

    The Scriptural thought about Elijah coming back again should be considered. Although nothing in the Old Testament is said about Moses returning, Malachi does prophesy Elijah will return. For example, Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord: And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children … (Malachi 4:5–6).

    The disciples referred to this prophecy and asked Jesus, "Why then say the scribes that Elias (Greek: Elijah) must first come? And Jesus answered and said unto them, Elias truly shall first come, and restore all things. But I say unto you, That Elias is come already, and they knew him not, but have done unto him whatsoever they listed (Greek: determined). Likewise shall also the Son of man suffer of them. Then the disciples understood that He spake unto them of John the Baptist (Matthew 17:10–13). (Note Matthew 11:13 about the Law and the Prophets and John the Baptist: For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John").

    Coinciding with Jesus’ statements that John the Baptist was the Elijah prophesied to come, further note Luke’s account of the visit of the angel Gabriel to Zacharias. But the angel said unto him, Fear not, Zacharias: for thy prayer is heard; and thy wife Elisabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John … And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord (Luke 1:13,17). The preceding words inform any that Zacharias and his wife, Elizabeth, would have a son named John, who would come in the spirit and power of Elijah, and would turn the hearts of the fathers to the children (Luke 1:17). What Gabriel mentioned is in agreement with what Malachi prophesied: And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children (Malachi 4:6). Therefore, John the Baptist was really the figurative Elijah prophesied to come "in the spirit and
