    Lawrence

Iwanted her. Just so happened that she was reaching for the aspirin at exactly the same time that I was. Our hands touched for a brief second; it felt like fireworks and instantly I saw our future. Two kids, six-bedroom house, two vacations a year, a cruise on our tenth anniversary. It all seemed nice, but I’m a street nigga. Tattoos down my arm against her smooth clear brown skin probably wasn’t something she was into. So, I instantly came back to my senses.

    Excuse me.

She smiled, showing pretty white teeth and sparkling eyes. It took my breath away. She wasn’t like the usual multi-colored weave wearing chicks I attracted. She had class, a college education, probably a good job. I could tell all of this by looking at her.

    No, excuse me.

I wanted her, but I stepped back letting her grab what she needed. She turned and walked away, but I studied her. She had long black hair, black rimmed glasses, a skirt, like she worked in an office, and this cool confidence like she was floating without a care. Pulling at my suit, she made me feel underdressed, pulling on my tie and my suit jacket. I was a hood nigga with a business mindset and Wall Street stock broker swag. Usually, I wouldn’t be in here, but I had a little honey dip coming over. So, I cut into the pharmacy to get some rubbers. Now, as she walked around picking up various items, I found myself following her. Through the card section, down to the candy aisle, over to the drink coolers where she grabbed a water and a pint of ice cream out of the freezer. Somehow we locked eyes, she smiled faintly, but she looked away.

    Hey Boss?

Looking around I saw Tyrus, my right hand.

    Yeah man.

I turned around and ol’ girl was at the register checking out.

We gotta go. Little situation is moving. I knew what that meant.

I can’t do shit. It’s like I can’t even have two seconds to myself.

Dropping the condoms, I walked out behind Tyrus. I looked around for my dream girl, but she was gone. Even outside, there was no trace of her.

Out in the parking lot, the trunk of my car was banging around.

Hurry and get us out of here.

Jumping in the car Tyrus got in and sped off with enough knocking in the trunk to sound like bowling balls were jumping around in it.

    Turn the music up.

Blasting some beat Tyrus rode to our destination, a vacant street deep on the north side but my mind was on her. Watching my hands I thought about all the men I killed, the dope I cooked, and how my hands were only the few places I didn’t have tattoos. Shit like that kept me from being with chicks I wanted. The ones that weren’t chasing blunts and Jimmy Choo shoes and really wanted to be with me instead of lusting over all my money.

This is good. I told Tyrus pointing to a dark street where we could pull over.

Jumping out the car, I held the pistol while Tyrus opened the trunk.

    Aww you awake now huh?

Hogged tied and his head breathing was my ex goon, one of the niggas that was supposed to have my back, but like everybody else in this business, he proved to be a fake.

He was screaming something, but through the duct tape, my ears couldn’t tell what the fuck he was saying.

    You understand him Tyrus?

    He shook his head.

Naw boss. I don’t know what the fuck he’s saying.

Pulling him from the car, Tyrus threw his ass on the ground.

You know what, bitch? I wouldn’t do this if you hadn’t crossed me.

He shook his head no, but I knew better.

Proof is in the motherfucking pudding bitch.I fired two holes in his chest and one in his head as my cell phone started ringing.

Come on, Tyrus. Take me to the crib.

Getting in the car, we drove away, but I could still see him in the side view. A nigga that I called my friend was laying in the street leaking, all because he was playing both sides. There was no way that he could talk to 5-0, and I not find out.

You know what, Tyrus? The game ain’t the same man.

    Sho’ ain’t Boss.

You know what? I gotta find me a real bitch...like for real and settle down.

He glanced back and forth from me to the road.

I’m serious. No more of this bullshit.

As soon as I said it, my phone rang. The honey dip I was buying the condoms for was blowing up my line begging to come over.

After tonight bruh. I’m only fucking a woman that is going to be my wife, I said the words, but my nigga Tyrus laughed.

I’m serious bruh. Only real women from now on.

I knew he didn’t believe me, part of me didn’t believe myself. I had every bitch under the sun in a million different flavors and all shapes and sizes they all wanted my money. They were in love with the cars, clothes, and the status that came with fucking a made man like me. The shit was bad, and, as this chick blew up my phone, all I could think about was the girl from the pharmacy.

Getting to my house Tyrus was waiting on instructions.

I’ll see you in the morning, man.

    A’ight, boss.

Stepping out, the door man opened the door for me. All the way up to my penthouse suite, I had the mystery girl on my mind. When the doors opened up, I saw the freak that had been calling me standing right in my
