About this ebook

One day an engineer prince dropped a golden multiscan down a blowhole on the frozen surface of his home asteroid. A passing "frag" (an artificial cloned lifeform designed to be imprinted with the genetic blueprint of highly trained soldiers) offered to retrieve it, and in return asked to spend just one night in the prince's bed.

The classic Grimm fairy tale receives a funny and macabre update in this short story prelude to Andrew K Lawston's upcoming novel Voyage of the Space Bastard.

First published in Grimm & Grimmer: Volume Four (2016).

    The Frag Prince

IT WAS JUST AFTER LUNCH one fine Monday afternoon when Prince Bouffard wandered out of the palace to search for Tuesday with a spherical handheld multiscan. After three generations of his family using the asteroid as a frag production plant, the atmosphere was pretty stable, so Bouffard didn't even think to switch on his re-breather as he stepped into the dusty exterior.

Within minutes he had reached the top of a small hill, and gazed out over the raw, pocked surface
