Falling Ill
Related imageCarrie came to Brad and said, Brad, I’m sick. I think I need to see the doctor.
Okay honey. Make an appointment and I will take you.
Brad replied.
Being together for fifteen years allows a couple to really get to know one another and Brad knew Carrie. He could tell there was something really wrong with her. Without hesitation he took her to the doctor. When she got there the doctor told her that she had a bad chest cold and to take some over the counter medication. Carrie was disappointed. He didn’t run any test or do an X-ray on her. The doctor was more than happy with the instructions he had given Carrie and sent her on her way. Carrie was left feeling dissatisfied.
Carrie did as the doctor instructed and took the medicine for two days with no relief. Suddenly, she was finding it very hard to breathe. Brad, I can’t breathe. I think I need to go to the hospital.
Carrie only drove locally and depended on Brad to do all of the driving. Brad left work and ran her to the hospital. Unfortunately, he couldn’t stay with her; he had to return to work. Before he would leave he made Carrie promise to call him as soon as she found out what was going on with her. She agreed. Carrie felt a little scared as she watched his taillights fade in the distance.
When Carrie walked into the Emergency Room she explained to the nurse how she went to the doctor just two days prior to coming there and what the doctor told her to do. The nurse instructed her to have a seat and they would get to her when they could. After what felt like hours of waiting, they finally called her back, but she was left feeling disappointed. The nurse put her in a bed in the hallway. She was left there for hours unattended and her breathing was only getting worse.
While she was waiting, they finally gave her a breathing treatment. That seemed to help a little, but not by much.
The hours slowly ticked by as she waited impatiently in the hallway.
The longer she laid on that hospital bed in the hallway the harder she was finding it to breathe. Finally, she was taken to a room and seen by the on-call doctor. They ran some test on her and when the results came back Carrie was shocked. She had Pneumonia.
The doctor admitted Carrie and hours later she was taken to her own private room. While she was waiting for her room, she asked for a phone to call Brad. She was sticking to her promise and she needed to tell him what was going on. Carrie suddenly began to get worse. When she stood or even sat up her oxygen levels would plummet.
The doctor ordered for Carrie to be put in the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital and was put on life support. She had to be put on oxygen to force air into her lungs to make her breathe since she was having such a hard time breathing on her own. Once she was moved to ICU the nurses immediately came in and started to put an IV in her hand. They also ran more test and gave her the antibiotics she needed to get better through her IV.
When Brad finished working he ran home and threw a few things into an overnight bag for the both of them, since he didn’t know how long Carrie would be in the hospital, then he came straight to the hospital to be by her side.
Carrie was getting worse. Her oxygen levels were dangerously low. The doctor kept her on life support and ordered her not to leave the bed. Carrie and Brad started to become frightened. Brad hadn’t realized how sick Carrie actually was until that moment. Brad felt so bad for her and he wanted to do everything in his power to make her as comfortable as possible. He did everything he could to be there for her and to give her anything she needed. He was her rock and she needed him now more than ever.
Years ago, Brad and Carrie were on Myspace together where they used to play an app called SuperPoke Pets. Carrie’s avatar was a kitty cat and Brad’s was a panda bear. He used to play just so he could send items to her. After that any time she would see a panda bear it reminded her of Brad, so he started buying her panda bear memorabilia. Within the memorabilia was a stuffed panda bear and a throw blanket with a panda bear on it. Brad brought Carrie these items from home to make her feel more comfortable. Carrie thought it was the sweetest gesture. Even the nurses would come in and compliment her on her panda memorabilia. They also thought it was sweet of him to bring these things to make her feel more at home.
One day to Carrie’s
