Men are often expected to be strong and keep it together in a crisis. It’s something I had a lot of practice in during my 27 years in the Navy. But, in April 2018, as I sat next to my wife, Sarah, as she lay in a hospital bed and doctors told us her lung cancer had spread plus there was nothing more they could do, it took everything I had not to fall apart.
