About this ebook

It’s the tournament of the demigods and Kari has made it to the semi-final. A game of strategy. Her competitor is Theron: a male she can’t help but be intrigued by, and it’s not all to do with his warrior skills. Head-to-head, Kari has to deny her attraction in order to win, but Theron is a temptation too powerful for a half-mortal to resist.

Theron is blind-sided by the woman sitting across from him. She’s mysterious and fierce, and he can’t look away from her, which makes concentrating on the competition all the more challenging.

One game will decide the winner! But maybe the prize isn’t as important as they thought it would be.

    Chapter One

This was the penultimate round. The tournament of the demigods. The fight for freedom. She’d survived tests of strength, skill, combat, courage, speed. Anything the gods could envision in order for the player to prove themselves worthy.

Only four contestants remained and by some unfathomable miracle, Kari was one of them. She had no special training, she wasn’t particularly powerful, yet there she was, awaiting the arrival of her opponent.

They never knew what the round would entail until it began.

Adrenaline pulsed through her bloodstream. Nerves made it impossible to be still. She circled the small room, the sole of her black boots silent against the stone floor.

Three of the walls were made of pale wood, carved with intricate designs that gave them the deceptive appearance of being velvet soft. The fourth wall was glass and connected to the room of the other two semi-finalists.

In the center, a rickety oak table was situated with a large steel dome covering the surface, and in the back right corner, a fire burned, small but constant.

    What was under the dome?

Kari was curious but that didn’t concern her as much as who her opponent would be.

One name circled her head like a song. One demigod she dreaded walking through that door.

She knew the time would come when she would have to face him but dread hammered in her chest at the thought of it. He was smart, he was tough, he was ruthless.

And that had absolutely nothing to do with why she didn’t want to challenge him. But if it didn’t happen now then that meant she either had to face him in the next round or that he’d already been defeated.

    Neither of those was acceptable.

Theron was his name. He was one of the contestants she’d watched when she was learning to fight. More skilled than any other, the unrestrained power behind every move had excited her in its serenity. No anger. No ferocity. Like a wave; fluid, strong and deadly. She never wanted to experience the full force of Theron’s attack storming over her.

On the practice fields where she’d watched him, she always liked how easily he smiled. Laughing with his training partners one second and then pounding them into the ground the next, but whether the victor or defeated, he took the hand of his rival graciously, and later that night they’d be getting drunk together and wooing females. His natural charm and beautiful face made that no difficult feat.

The females swarmed to him. Both mortal and demigoddess, Theron was a man who could have his pick.

Sun-worshipped skin over sleek muscles, his powerful body was a tower of deadly strength, and the strands of dark gold swept carelessly away from his face gave a merciless unimpeded view of his sharp jawline, straight nose, and striking bone-structure.

He prowled into the room, seconds later, reducing the space from small to tiny with the impact of his presence.

He’d always had that overwhelming force. Whenever she’d seen him, from a distance or up close, training or drinking, serious or joking. His dominance was as deep as his soul.

A flick of his gaze around the room and he absorbed the details surrounding him, including Kari, frozen in place just before him.

It had to happen, she knew it did, but that didn’t make it
