About this ebook

The 3rd Eye of Alley Cat Slick is a compilation of love poems, lyrics, political,social and religious opinions as interpreted by Kevin Brooks. Although this is the second book from the author Alley Cat Slick, it is unique from his 1st book Willowcreek Disciple in that it isn't a novel.

In this book author Alley Cat Slick displays a versatility that transcends a particular genre or writing style. He has proven that he is more than a writing one hit wonder, rather he is a permanent fixture on the literary scene.

At time this book will evoke your intellectual side. At other times the author boldly declares his religious beliefs. Sometimes his pains will leap off of the pages. His romantic side will be made evident from the love poems that he created. All and all; The 3rd Eye of Alley Cat Slick is a masterfully written book that proves that Alley Cat Slick is an artist that happens to write books. The concept of the book was creative from it's conception, and is sure to give birth to a masterpiece. Muata Elohim

    Foreword

    The content of this book consists of my thoughts, ideologies, opinions, religious convictions, love poems, my bouts with depression, love for my race, and lyrics to some of the songs that I have composed over the years, featured on the album: Long Time Coming - from boyhood to manhood. Unlike Willowcreek Disciple, my 1st published work, this piece is a non-fiction body of work.

    It is written to challenge old ideas, confirm certain practices and beliefs, and to hopefully uplift a group of people. Most of the poems were inspired by the various beautiful women whom I have crossed paths with over the years. The chapter entitled Depression acted as a therapeutic remedy for me as I faced those dark and lonely days. Warrior Songs is a tribute to my love for the lyrical content of any genre of good music. But perhaps the main reason for me to compile this body of work was to prove that I can write something other than a fictitious novel.

    Although I am more than proud of my debut book, Willowcreek Disciple, I don’t want to be looked upon as only a creator of novels. Willowcreek Disciple is a testament to my creativity; however, my very essence is that of a non-fiction mentality. So I felt that it was critical for me to follow up with a compilation of my thoughts and opinions.

    Depression was by far the hardest section of this book for me to elaborate on. As a man, it isn’t that easy to expose your vulnerabilities to others; however, I felt that it was necessary for me to let others know that at times we all get down. Throughout my journey, I have discovered that there is nothing weak about feeling down at times. The problem arises when we allow ourselves to stay down. Unfortunately, I personally knew a couple of people who committed suicide; I only wish that someone would have told them that things will get better. It is only for that reason that I willfully expose my weakness in this book.

    I have chosen the title of this book to be The 3rd Eye of Alley Cat Slick because I would like to believe that it is deeper than your everyday book. Throughout these pages I have sometimes painstakingly revealed my hidden thoughts and emotions. Although I would love to make a decent living off my writings, I feel that it is more important for me to accurately convey a message to the reader that will inspire as well as motivate him or her in a positive manner.

    So with all of that said, I now introduce to you: The 3rd Eye of Alley Cat Slick.

    a Kevin Brooks creation…

    Before you can enjoy the beauty of a rose; you must first respect the thorns.

    Challenges are what make life interesting, overcoming them is what makes life meaningful.

    POEMS

    Affection

    Nubian queen; looking peaceful and serene:

    God has seen my tears because He quickly intervened.

    What man in his right mind wouldn’t want you?

    He must have gay tendencies or be a straight up fool.

    This is more than just a crush, rush, or a lust;

    God controls our steps, and I know it pertains us.

    It is written, It is not good for man to be alone.

    So when you find a virtuous woman, adorn her and set her on a throne.

    When I see you, I see the mother of a great nation;

    A people that’s conscious of God and forever endeavoring unification.

    O what beauty the Lord has allowed me to behold;

    I just wanna love you, mind, body, and soul.

    I won’t lie girl; I’m rough around the edges;

    But with your help, I’ll soften up in certain places like feathers.

    God must’ve had me on His mind when He created you;

    Because you’ve manifested, my dream come true.

    Don’t be deterred by my physical limitations;

    Because by God’s grace, I exceed expectations.

    Your skin tone is the color of the soil that replenishes;

    Your face is silky smooth, with no scratches or blemishes.

    Your fragrance is as a bouquet of roses;

    Your body is firm like a statue holding poses.

    We go together baby like a horse and a saddle;

    You got me floating down a stream of love without a paddle.

    Roses are red, tulips are white;

    My heart is the garden, and you’re the sunlight.

    Alley Cat Slick a.k.a. Kevin Brooks.

    I need you

    The thought of you sends goosebumps up and down my body. If one were to describe you to a man who had lost his sight, all one would have to say is that you’re a picture of perfection. The English vocabulary isn’t vast enough to accurately describe your beauty.

    Mmmmh.

    Your lips are sweeter than blueberry pancakes with extra syrup. Looking into your eyes is as breathe-taking as watching the sunset on a beautiful autumn day. Your skin is as soft and smooth as stilled water. Your hair is the crown of your beauty - free of chemicals and extensions. Your fragrance is as refreshing as a brand new car’s interior. Your body is as voluptuous as a champion thoroughbred.

    If only I could eloquently articulate my affection towards you; then perhaps you would realize that your prince charming has materialized in the flesh. If only I could attract you with my words; then perhaps you would realize that my lyrics are only a reflection of my feelings towards you. If only you could overlook my disability; then perhaps you would realize that a wounded warrior is in your presence.

    God is good, God is great; you’re the object of my desire; yes you’re my fate. I am not ashamed to admit that I need you; because I already know that behind every good man there’s a better woman…

    How you doing sweet and sexy? Just a little something I wrote for you.

    You exemplify the beauty of a woman. Your skin is as smooth as still waters. Your eyes are beautiful and luring, as if they’re silently telling me something. I don’t know about up here, but down South we call that bedroom eyes; truly sexy. Your belly doesn’t protrude or bulge, even though you were blessed with the opportunity of carrying life in it. Your body is nice, thick and fit like a thoroughbred; looking all strong and stuff. Your hair be neatly wrapped up, making you truly resemble an African empress.

    Truly the Lord has blessed me when He allowed us to cross paths again. You are a nice, beautiful, vibrant soul, and hopefully I would never bring any harm your way. For you deserve to be cherished and adored, as opposed to being mistreated.

    Your character and demeanor compliment your pretty face. Your inner-beauty pierces through you and shines like a bright light. Your aura is radiant and evident. Your unwillingness to settle for less is obvious, and you will ultimately be rewarded for your ambition. If I could describe you with one word, it would probably be revitalizing, for you are like a breath of fresh air.

    God must have had me on His mind when He created you, for you are the object of my desire. However, it isn’t that simple; in fact, it is quite a complicated predicament I find myself in. Therefore I mustn’t be hasty, but thoroughly weigh the cost, because there is a lot at stake.

    Nevertheless, I thank God for the opportunity to correspond with you. Worst case scenario, hopefully a beautiful friendship will blossom between us.

    One Brooks…

    MS. JOHNSON

    Sherry honey, you’re sweeter than a broke man acquiring some money; you’re versatile, deep conversation for the mind, plus it be funny. This is my word, really I would like to know you better; that’s why I wrote you this letter; I hope it makes you feel better. Chocolate Empress, tell me about your day; I’m interested; if you’re stressed you can rest on my chest, your highness. You’re like the sun that shines so bright in the summer; you should see my face light up when on my phone it’s your number. Your body’s like a hilly terrain; it’s full of beautiful curves. I ain’t getting fresh, just keeping it real, and that’s my word. Your face is like extra syrup on my waffles; you’re so sweet, you should thank God for creating, (mission impossible). It’s so hard for a brother to see you and not lust; just one touch and a brother bust; but I’m a keep it righteous. Your dialect is hi-tech, and makes me erect; your intellect is so deep, let’s make mind sex. Right now I’m a sign off, don’t want you to think I’m a hawk; this is strictly for you, sincerely, Ms. Sweetheart.

    Kevin Brooks

    My eyes have beheld a beautiful sight in the form of a woman. If I could paint a picture as perfect as Michael Angelou, I still wouldn’t fully capture your beauty. Surely God has blessed my eyes when He allowed them to set on you.

    If I had 24 hours to live and was granted three wishes, one would be to ask for the peace and prosperity of my children, mother, family and loved ones. Two would be to ensure that the poor, needy, disabled, elderly, and the least esteemed people would prosper as well. Three would be me asking for another 24 hours, so I could get to know you better, Empress.

    God must have had me on his mind when he created you, for you are the object of my
