The Rescue of the "Lady's Slipper"
()
About this ebook
Anyone who enjoys action and adventure will find pleasure in this account of a days journey with the all female crew on a long boat called the Ladys Slipper. In it you follow the crew through the hours of smooth sailing to the strenuous work of saving their bateau from sinking in the fast moving waters of the James River in Virginia. Emotions waiver from doubt and anxiety to relief and gratitude. It is the journey that is significant for those who travel with the Slipper, not the destination.
Gail Timberlake
Gail is a retired high school teacher. She received her B.S. in Home Economics Education from Longwood College and her M.S. in Rehabilitation Counseling from Virginia Commonwealth University. She serves as a certified lay speaker, Sunday School teacher and soloist in her church. Community involvement includes serving as Christmas Mother 2008, sponsoring Relay For Life teams and VP of Virginia Canals & Navigations Society. Her expertise in Early Childhood Education along with love for the James River inspired her to write a series of children's books about her adventures on a batteau. For the past twenty eight years Gail has enjoyed participating in the James River Batteau Festival. As a crew member of the all female boat--the Lady's Slipper--she has experienced fulfillment, joy and sometimes danger. Gail lives in Powhatan County, Virginia where she still volunteers in school as advisor to FCCLA (student organization). She has six grandchildren that are all featured in the true stories she writes.
