Prayer for Black Boys

Now I lay me down to sleep
I pray for Black Boys on the street.
I pray that they will make good choices
Let them hear their mamas voices.
Son, grow up and do whats right
I pray that youll come home tonight

INTRODUCTION
The poems in Poetic Stories: from the Eyes of My Windows are inspired writings from actual people around me, actual events in my life, and ideas in my head and heart. What I like about these poetic stories is that no two stories are alike. Each one tells its own story and takes on its own design and meaning. The inspiration for each one comes when it comes; therefore the poems are written at various times, and several of the poetic stories are from past experiences.
I tried to use various literary devices. So, as you read, you will see and hear varied rhyme scheme patterns. You will hear multiple usage of repetition, and you will hear examples of metaphors, similes, onomatopoeia, and certainly imagery.
All of the poetic stories are from the eyes of my window, the depths of my soul, from my mind’s perspective, and from my inspirations. I was inspired and motivated to write each one for one reason or another to share with you as a reader. This work intends to give you an insight as to what I was thinking, feeling, and going through. It explains how each poem came about from a mere thought, a past experience, or an action. There are several poems that fall into the category as my favorites, and I hope several of these poems will become your favorite as well.
Readers, will you do me a favor? Read the poetic stories at random. Do not read the book from the first poem to the last one; go from poem to poem at random. I think you will certainly enjoy reading the poems that way. I did not write the poems in a chronological order. A few of them were written at various times and for various reasons. Many were written for the compilation of this work. Go to the Table of Contents, select a poem, read it, and go from there.
CHAPTER 1: Poetic Stories from the Eyes of Youthful Bliss
Summer Fun is a poem that I remember writing when I was in the eighth grade. I wrote it for my English class. That morning after arriving at school, one of my friends didn’t have her homework. Well, she wanted to copy my poem, this poem. I didn’t know any better at the time, so I let her copy my poem. Just so happened she went to the English class before me. She submitted my poem as her poem. When I got to the same class a few hours later, the teacher recognized that this poem had already been submitted. She questioned me. I told her I wrote the poem, and my friend copied it. I do not remember the consequence or the grade I received, but it never happened again, thanks to that teacher.

One day I was standing in my classroom while the students were engaged in a standardized test. I was prompting and monitoring my students as they worked. My mind wondered a little bit. I thought about how it takes a great teacher to bring the scattered minds of these students together, in one place, and on the same accord during a class period and a school day. Thus, the poetic story of Scattered Minds was created.
