    Anna

Good morning Kaylee! Look what I can do! Anna said excitedly to her new baby sister as she began to spin her basketball on her fingertips.

Kaylee didn’t appreciate Anna’s excitement at all. In fact she started to cry very loud!

What are you doing, Anna! her mom anxiously asked as she came over to pick up Kaylee.

    anna0001_300.jpg

I just wanted to show Kaylee my new trick, Anna said.

How many times do I have to tell you that you have to be careful around your baby sister, reminded her mom.

But I just wanted to play with her, remarked Anna.

I know Anna, but Kaylee is too small to play with you right now, said her mom. If you want to be around her you must use your soft, quiet voice. Maybe later you can show her your new basketball trick.

    Sorry Mom, Anna said.

That’s ok. Now why don’t you go play somewhere else while I try to get Kaylee to go back to sleep, suggested her mom.

As Anna left the room she saw her older brother Joshua getting ready to leave.

Hey Joshua! Where ya going? Anna asked.

To play hoops with the guys, Joshua said as he threw his jacket over his shoulder.

Can I come? Anna pleaded I can show everyone how I can spin the ball on my fingertips just like you taught me.

Not today squirt. We’re going to the movies later and you’re too little to go, Joshua told her.

    Aahhh, pleeaassee! Anna begged.

Nope! Maybe some other time. See ya! Joshua called as he jumped down the steps and took off running towards Luke’s house.

Anna followed Joshua out the door and stood there watching as he went down the street.

What a bummer! It’s so unfair! Anna thought as she plopped down on the front steps. I never have anyone to play with.

Just then Aunt Jamie came up the steps and sat down by Anna.

Hey Kiddo. What’s up with the sad face? she asked.

Oh, Joshua is always leaving me behind to go play with the guys and every time I try to play with Kaylee I get in trouble. I don’t know what the big fuss is anyway. All Kaylee does is sleep and cry. She’s no fun at all. She can’t even dribble a basketball like I can. But everyone thinks she’s soooo cute. It’s not fair!

Well, people get that way around new babies. Why, they acted the same way when you were born, Aunt Jamie declared.

    They did? asked Anna.

Yep. They thought you were soooo cute too and they still do, Aunt Jamie said as she wiggled Anna’s nose. Just in a different way, that’s all.

I don’t know, sighed Anna, I remember when mom and dad said I was the prettiest girl in the whole world. They said that with my blonde curls and green eyes I looked like a princess. And when I got my glasses, mom said I looked even prettier. But now no one even notices me.

I noticed you! Aunt Jamie said enthusiastically, "If I hadn’t
