A Year in the Life of an Unemployed Poet - Cindy Rickey

    Acknowledgments

I acknowledge with loving thanks my husband, Peter Rickey, who inspires me every day.  It has been a wonderful experience to share my life with someone who always encourages me to find my own happiness and supports me in that endeavor with his entire being.   He is truly the funniest person I know, and I am so grateful for his ability to make me laugh.

I extend very special thanks to Manny Vavolizza, our Mr. V, my high school English teacher, who was able to cut through our adolescent bravado to reach our souls and still supports and encourages us many, many years later.

In addition, I would like to thank Jon Katz for his openness and candor about his own life struggles and who through his writing encourages us all to find our inner creative voices and let them burst forth to the world whether our song is one of joy or sorrow.

I am also very thankful for writings of the late Dr. Rollo May, in particular his book, The Courage to Create, which helped me work through the self-doubt and self-consciousness inherent in the creative process and for his understanding of the importance and societal value of the artists’ creation of Being from Non-Being.

Finally, I especially thank my daughter, Kimberly Harrison, for her superb editing and critical review and for filling my life with music.
