The summer before my son entered into his senior year in high school, I knew the time would fly. Just with the excitement alone, I knew the time would come when I would find myself to be completely overwhelmed and unorganized and unprepared.

I knew Ryan and I were about to embark on exciting and exhausting challenges. It didn’t take long before I found myself keeping a journal. A lot of it was humorous, which, by the way, is how I live my life—through humor. Otherwise, I don’t think I would have survived any of it. You see, I am a single mom, and Ryan is my only child. So naturally I felt a myriad of emotions going on, from losing my baby to don’t let the door hit you in the rear when you leave.

My decision to write this book was twofold: to help you, the misunderstood helicopter parent, stay on top of your child’s senior year and also as a memoir for myself.

In this book I have provided a timeline which will assist you in staying on top of all those important deadlines. Trust me … it’s easy to do.

    Acknowledgements ~

My son, Ryan, since that first kick in the womb, you changed my life and have brought so much joy into my world. Watching you grow has truly been a blessing.

I want to thank my mother for always believing in me and for encouraging me to write ever since my first short story at the age of nine.

To my friend and adviser, Dr. Victor Bruce, thank you for making this book possible. Your friendship means the world to me.

My sister and brother, Sharon and Gary, thank you for all the conversations and laughs around the kitchen table when we were growing up. Memories of that will always inspire me to pick up a pen.

To my dear friend Richie O’Connor, your continuous show of support and encouragement will always inspire me. I am eternally grateful for your friendship.

To my former neighbor and friends Terri and Jim Fosdick, for always looking out for our safety across the cul-de-sac and your continuous show of support.

My friend, Rick Hamilton, for your loving friendship and always making sure I had wheels.

My extremely talented nephew, Evan for the amazing artwork you have done with this book.
