First of all, I’d like to thank all of my fans. Without your support, I would not be up here today. It’s been quite an uphill climb setting up my own detective agency and all. In fact, there were times when I just wanted to throw in the towel, but your love and encouragement kept me focused and on the straight path. So I stand here before you today to accept this award …
What are you doing?
my sister Surina asked, as she came barging into my bedroom.
Ah, nothing,
I told her. I must have looked pretty silly standing in front of the mirror talking into a banana. But the truth of the matter was I was daydreaming. I was dreaming about receiving the coveted Clooby award for all the cases I had solved. It’s an award for helping the downtrodden, the less fortunate, the innocent victims, and helpless bystanders of society. And who was presenting this award to me? It was none other than the famous Jason P. Carlyle himself, president of the Cloak and Dagger Society. It was, by far, the most prestigious organization any detective could hope to belong to. And it wasn’t a simple matter of paying a membership fee and joining up—no, sir. You only became a member if you were invited into the society.
But who was I kidding? I had just solved my very first case, and already I was dreaming about the big time. Nevertheless, it was something to aspire to.
Have you even packed your suitcase?
Surina asked, standing there with her head tilted and her hands on her hips.
Almost, just my underwear left to pack,
I said jokingly. Can you pass it to me?
Whatever!
she scowled. When you’re finished talking to your banana, we’ll be waiting for you downstairs—and hurry, Mom says we’re leaving in one hour.
