Leslie met Lester at one of their high school track meets. Leslie was fifteen and so was Lester. Everything was so wonderful. Leslie and Lester were inseparable. They had something that was special. Their birthdays were on the same day. They were both on their principal’s lists in high school. They both shared the same dream. They had dreams of becoming an OB/GYN. Upon graduation, Leslie and Lester were both accepted to Indiana University’s school of medicine. They were both well on their way to being successful doctors. They spent a lot of time together studying and getting ready for different finals.

In their sophomore year at IU Leslie became pregnant. Leslie was very careless about taking her birth control pills. Lester was always getting on Leslie about her pills. He thought it would be better if Leslie got the birth control shot instead because Leslie was always forgetting to take them.

Everything became ever so cloudy. Leslie’s grades began to drop. Now the only thing left to do was drop out for a year to take care of their unborn child. Lester decided to marry Leslie immediately so that their baby would not be born out of wedlock. The couple agreed to Leslie returning back to school after their child was five years old.

Lester worked and went away to school to support his family the best way that he knew how.

When Lester Jr. reached the age of five, it was like a giant Christmas present to Leslie. Now her dream of becoming a doctor could be fulfilled.

Leslie did not have it together. She had already lost her full scholarship and discovered there was no way she could afford to return to school. As for Lester, he couldn’t care less to hear Leslie tell it.

Lester began staying out all hours of the night and that left Leslie to care for their baby alone. Leslie wondered what went wrong. How could this be happening? How could someone who claims to love you so much be so heartless when it came to being there for his wife and child?

Leslie’s luck had only gotten worse. Five years turned into nine and already Lester was working on a partnership at a local medical office.

Leslie knew her life was over. Lester had made it successfully. The only thing Leslie had was her son and her lost dream. She had no way of reaching Lester. He was fading out of the relationship. His priorities were no longer his family.

Leslie began cramping a lot and Lester decided to switch Leslie from the birth control shot to the pill. Leslie was not suspicious at all. Lester was not the ideal husband or father anymore, but it did not cross her mind that Lester might have bad intentions. Several months passed and Leslie noticed herself feeling sick and having cravings for different kinds of food. Surely she couldn’t be pregnant! Leslie made sure that she was taking her birth control correctly. Lester Jr. was nearly ten now and, to be honest, the only thing on Leslie’s mind.

After taking several home tests Leslie discovered that she was pregnant, again. Oh my, how could this be? Lester was her OB/GYN and she knew that had to be a big mistake.

Leslie thought about her pills. She rushed to the pharmacy to take the remaining pills to be checked by a pharmacist. To her surprise the pharmacist discovered they were sugar pills. Leslie was furious. How could this be happening? Not a second time! Lester was not the enemy. How could he be so selfish? Did he not want her to finish school? Did he just want her to be the housewife and continue to tolerate his infidelity?

Now Leslie really felt alone. She had a deceitful husband and on top of that she was pregnant for the second time. What is a woman to do? There was no way she could tell Lester about being pregnant because she had no intentions of having another child. Leslie had to think quickly. She had no money, no education and no one to even help her financially.

Leslie went to an older professor at IU to seek advice. The professor agreed to try to help Leslie in any way she could. Leslie went to another OB/GYN to see just how far along she was. She told the new doctor about the situation with her conniving husband and by her doctor being a woman her heart went out to Leslie. Leslie found out that she was six weeks pregnant and that she had very little time to terminate the pregnancy. Her professor offered her a job on campus assisting him in his journalism classes and a certain percentage would help take care of her college tuition.

Leslie finally felt like a heavy burden had been lifted off her shoulders. The only thing left to do now was to get the strength to have an abortion. Leslie was so torn. How would she tell Lester? How would she confront him? Tell him the truth? She didn’t even feel the need to tell him anything. Leslie then decided not to say anything at all. It would only be a waste of good air to confront someone as deceitful as Lester.

Three weeks had gone by and this was the day of the abortion. Lester hadn’t noticed any different behavior from Leslie. Maybe because of hi being gone 90 percent of the time. When it came to Leslie’s job, Lester showed no interest at all. To Lester everything that was important to her was important only to her. In his head, he felt like Leslie could never pick up and become the doctor she dreamed of being her whole life.

Leslie was at the abortion clinic and she felt terrible inside. Going through this was such a mental struggle for Leslie. Leslie requested to be asleep while the procedure was being done. Leslie was going through it alone. It was terrible. Leslie never suspected that Lester knew what was being done to her.

    **********

A whole year went by and Leslie could no longer play the fool Lester wanted her to be. Their relationship was at its worst. Leslie decided that she really needed to put a stop to the negative things in her life. It was time to do her own little detective work.

Leslie decided she would be following Lester today. She had everything in order. She had cameras, videotapes, notebook paper and a tape recorder. With everything Leslie had she was sure to find out every dark secret Lester was hiding.

Day one: it was a Monday and Leslie was on her way. She rented a small economy car so that Lester would not suspect her. Leslie’s disguise was not a very good disguise. If someone really looked at her they would know that it was her. When Lester arrived at his office he already had two patients waiting for him. One lady that really stood out was a tall, slender lady and she was very attractive. The other lady was a lady that looked like she had about six kids and needed to work out because her shape had been missing for about ten years. Leslie anonymously scoped out everything. Nothing seemed unordinary. She then decided to run a few errands and return around lunchtime or some time close to then.

It was about 12:30 and Leslie decided to call Lester at work.

When Lester picked up the phone Leslie asked, What time are you going to have lunch?

No lunch for me today; I have meetings all afternoon and I have to finish up here, he replied.

For some reason Leslie did not believe him so Leslie was off to Lester’s office to see just how true that was. Now Leslie was aggravated. She was stressed out over everything. When Leslie arrived at Lester’s office he had already left. That was just too bold! Where could Lester have gone so quickly? Leslie decided to sit there in the parking garage and see what Lester was up to.

Three hours passed by and still no Lester. Leslie had already figured out that Lester had not been at any meetings. Only a few minutes had passed and who was pulling up? It was Lester with the tall, pretty woman she saw earlier at his office. Leslie was furious. All she could think about was how could Lester be so deceitful? IT was close to five o’clock and Lester was with another woman. Leslie had her video camera and proceeded to film. Lester and the lady were walking toward his office. She even took out her camera and photographed them repeatedly. What to do now? How could she find out who this lady was?

The office was about to close and she knew they would not be in there long. About twenty mintues later the tall lady walked out into the parking garage. She got into her car. She was driving a new model Mercedes Benz. How impressive. Lester really went all out this time. He finally had someone who could fit in his class. Leslie copied the lady’s license plate number down and proceeded to follow the lady.

They drove about fifteen minutes and the first stop was at a law office. The lady was in the office about ten minutes. It was obvious that the lady worked there. After she pulled off Leslie went into the building to see if she could find out any information on her.

Leslie saw the closing security guard and asked if he knew who the lady that had just left the building was. To her suspicion, she was an attorney. Her name was Mallory White. She handled malpractice lawsuits.

Lester really had his little hands full. Leslie was so mad at herself. She felt like she should have followed Mallory to see where she lived. It was no big deal; she had her name and where she worked. Everything else would be easy to find out.

When Leslie got home, Lester had already left. She was so upset because she couldn’t follow him to his next destination. She had enough happen in one day. She thought that she would be a little relieved now hat she had a little information, but the pain that she felt just weighed her down. Sometimes Leslie felt really down because of not doing what she set out to do.

It was Tuesday and Leslie had to work so there was no way she could play detective today. It was so depressing to Leslie so she decided next time that she would go spying it would not be on any regular workdays.

On Wednesday at dinner, Leslie noticed that Lester was in a hurry eating his food. Lester Jr. looked a little down at the dinner table.

Lester Jr. looked at his dad and said, Dad, there is this boy in class teasing me.

Why is he teasing you? his father replied.

The kids in private school say Mom is not a real doctor and they make fun of me and laugh. Many of the kids at his school had parents who were doctors.

Leslie looked at her son with disappointment in her eyes.

Immediately Lester looked at the little one and said, Your mom is going to be a doctor very soon so you don’t have to be embarrassed by the other kids.

    How soon? Lester Jr. said.

    Soon enough.

Day Two: On Saturday Leslie decided to do more detective work. On this particular day she decided to see what was on Mallory’s agenda. She had got her address from a friend at the BMV. When she woke up, Lester had already gone. So she sent Lester Jr. to one of his friend’s houses for the weekend.

Leslie pulled up at Mallory’s house and parked at a distance. She wasn’t too far and she had already waited an hour and a half. Moments later Mallory finally walked out of her house. She was dressed in designer golf wear. Her clothes fit her just right. Not to Leslie’s surprise Mallory was not alone. Leslie’s vision was not perfect. She could only see that the man was tall and slender. They approached their vehicles which just so happened to be identical, except for the back of his license plates ready doc’s. Leslie thought to herself, Who could this man be? Could this man be Mallory’s or someone else’s? He drove off. Mallory went back into the house. She must have forgotten something. When she walked out of the door she had a medium sized box that was gift wrapped with a red
