About this ebook

I have been driven to my knees many times by the overwhelming conviction that I had no place else to go.
Abraham Lincoln
Pray without ceasing. 1 Thessalonians 5:17. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Ephesians 6:12. Forty-Four Prayers for the 44th President. The Book That Will Keep The United States On Its Knees for the President. Motivated by a driving need for an economic revival in the United States, but with a clear understanding that spiritual revival is a precursor to economic revival, since we are limited by our humanity in what we can accomplish solely by own abilities, but that our scope and capacities for accomplishments are multiplied exponentially when our lives are spiritually enforced through prayer. Recognizing not only that history has been made with the election of the countrys first African-American President, Barack Obama, but that the office of president, as leader of the free world, carries a solemn responsibility not only to lead in the national economic recovery, but also to be a moral barometer, championing the spiritual revival that is an antecedent to sustainable economic revival in the United States.

Beginning at the ground level by praying for wisdom and knowledge, Forty-Four Prayers for the 44th President builds upon forty-four areas that should be a focus of prayer for the President as he looks heavenward on a daily basis for strength for the task at hand and courage for the journey. The book covers many important areas of prayer for the President such as prayer for protection, faith, family, morality, marriage, jobs, patience, humility and listening. One of the most important steps is for the nation at large to recognize the need for prayer and the power of the God to whom we pray. It is here, on the prayer alter that the President, and every other citizen in the United States will find divine guidance and protection. Where the nation must reflect on where it came from and seek impetus in where it will go. Prayer is a no-spin territory. We either believe in the power of prayer to the most high God, or we do not. In the United States, we must start with rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem such as integrity, moral values, and leave a legacy based on those values we hold so dear.

As a dedicated Christian, Beverley P. Jordan believes strongly in the power of prayer protecting the United States and guiding its constituents. More so, she believes that Presidents strongest victories will come when he spends time on his knees. The greatest revival and change in which we can believe in the history of America took place more than 150 years ago in the 1850s. One day, Price and Orr report, 'Mr. Jeremiah Lanphier answered a call to action and he started a prayer meeting in New York City. It began with six persons, and then grew to hundreds and then thousands, then spread across every state in America. It is reported that people regained hope and productivity [jobs] increased, as the benefits of spiritual revival overflowed into secular and economic revival.

Read her book and find out for yourself how Forty-Four Prayers for the 44th President will propel each and everyone of you into action, first on your knees and then towards the revival we so desperately need. This inspirational prayer book was written as a testament of her faith and belief in the power of prayer; as she witnessed the tremendous mile-stone of the first African-American President, she felt that she could make her small contribution through prayer. Forty-four Prayers for the 44th President is dedicated to President and Mrs. Obama and family. Beverley P. Jordan hopes that they will feel secure knowing that they are being prayed for frequently and consistently.

If I should try to chronicle the list of persons to whom acknowledgement is due for this book, the acknowledgement section would be more voluminous than the book itself. I do, however, owe warm, deep and sincere thanks to my family: My husband, Alfred, my two daughters, Atasha and Alisha, and my son, Alex. Atasha and Alisha, you are the two most precious jewels I have ever known. Alex, you are my inspiration. I can re-call the night we returned from visiting your sister at Harvard University. You were bent on submitting your homework on time and stayed up until 5:00 a.m. to complete the assignment, even after a harrowing weekend and over ten hours of driving. My faithful husband, thank you for putting up with the rigor and less-than-ideal circumstances while I wrote this book. I would also like to thank my mom, my mentor, Irma George, mother of ten, for believing in me and following up with me often to see if I were making progress with the book; my seven siblings; my church family; my friends.

A special note of thanks to my two precious daughters, Atasha Jordan and Alisha Jordan, who served as co-editors for the production of this book. Atasha is currently a Senior at Harvard University and is pursuing Pre-Med via a Bachelor’s Degree in Neuroscience with a Citation in French. Alisha is currently a Sophomore at Yale University and is pursuing Pre-Med via a Bachelor’s Degree in the History of Science, Medicine, and Public Health.

    Foreword

Destiny has called. America has answered this call to build a better America. However, the hopes and dreams of the multitudes, the might of the campaign, as well as the vigor and fervor of the society singlehandedly will not be enough to complete such a voyage or to accomplish the charge at hand. Ephesians 6:12 says, For we wrestle not with flesh and blood, but against principalities and powers, against the rulers of wickedness in high places, and as a result of this spiritual warfare, we must pray. The battle not only involves human beings, but it is against the world system and the devil who is the prince of the world. We must continue a journey of prayer for the 44th President of the United States of America, and we must start today. I have started the journey with the President Obama in prayer, and now I humbly ask all of America to join with me.

From the time I was a little girl growing up in the picturesque countryside of the world’s most beautiful island, Tobago, the smaller of the twin island-nation Trinidad and Tobago, I experienced the legacy of real faith. I witnessed firsthand what real faith was by the way my mother took her challenges and cares to the Lord in prayer and kneeled at her bedside every morning and every night, praying aloud so that the entire household could hear her. Afterwards, she sang; she sang songs of Zion and then went off to bed. To this day, she prays for each of her ten children by name, and she prays for the third, fourth, and fifth generations of family. I learned very early in my childhood to pray. However, unlike my mother, I was and still am the quieter, closet-praying type. I was one of the doubting Thomas’s who in the early course of the 2008 Presidential election had little faith that a black man would ascend to the presidency of the United States in my life time. My own experiences with racism, prejudice, and the reality of being kept in one’s place with the proverbial glass ceiling fuelled my doubts. Gladly, I have been proven wrong, and my faith in God has been strengthened. It was on that fateful day in February 2007, just about 150 years following the nomination of Abraham Lincoln as the Republican candidate for the United States, that President Barack Obama, in announcing his candidacy for the United States presidency, had the audacity of hope to declare that:

If you feel destiny calling, and see, as I see, a future of endless possibility stretching before us; if you sense, as I sense, that the time is now to shake off our slumber, and slough off our fear, and make good on the debt we owe past and future generations, then I’m ready to take up the cause.

Barack Obama’s intensity to the campaign and the fervent energy generated in the movement was not the usual type of campaign—the well-connected and rich and famous, Wall Street savvy type of campaign. It was seen as destiny calling under the urgency of the present moment. The campaign was approached with almost pious dexterity.

Mr. Forty-fourth President, the forty-four prayers for you are not to be seen in the human mindset. They are to be relished in the supernatural, for the ability to pray is a privilege and opportunity,
