About this ebook
Bullies in Power is written from the heart with a down-to-earth style intended to move the reader along a path of life as experienced by a family dealing with the challenges of poverty and racially-motivated abusive authorities. This book conveys a powerful message that love, hope and determination provide the tools necessary to overcome lifes challenges.
Not what I expected at all. When I began reading the manuscript I found it mesmerizing and had to read it all before putting it down. Ken Salter, BSW, RSW.
Bullies in Power captivated me emotionally and spiritually. I couldnt help but admire the love and courage shared by this family Bernie Rothenburger, editor.
There are many ways to tell a story but Bullies in Power reflects honesty at its most primitive level. There is no mistaking what the writer means. The facts are beyond contesting and so clearly presented that the reader feels the emotional content of the events described. Its as though the reader is living the experience.
Sergeant (Ret’d) Paul M. Lagace CD, BA
Born in St George, New Brunswick on a very cold and snowy January 31, 1954, Paul Morel Lagace is the second of twelve children. Yvon and Jeannine Lagace relocated to the neighboring parish of Drummond in the summer of 1955. Paul’s education began in a two-room school in 1959. Life experiences would include joining the Canadian Armed Forces in 1974 where life in the Armored Corps meant duties in Germany and the Middle East before a transfer to Air Defense led to duties at radar sites across Canada. In 1979, while stationed at Canadian Forces Station Mount Lolo in Kamloops, British Columbia, Paul met and fell deeply in love with Amy. In 1980 and 1981 Paul attended Addictions Studies summer programs at the University of Sherbrooke which led him to embark on a Bachelor of Arts Program through the Open University of British Columbia. Along with his Bachelor’s Degree, Paul was awarded the Governor General’s Silver Medal for Academic Excellence at the convocation in 1990. Retired from the Canadian Armed Forces in 1994 and relocated to Kamloops where he began working as an Addictions Counselor with the Phoenix Centre Corrections Program. Leaving the Phoenix Centre in 1998 he became the Client Services Coordinator with the AIDS Society of Kamloops where he continues to provide services to people living with or affected by HIV/AIDS. Paul’s experience with applying word to paper flowed from a brief essay that earned him an A at the University of Sherbrooke in 1980. Writing with a common sense approach in a convincing way would later contribute to Paul’s successful challenge of the Canadian National Defense Act and Canadian Income Tax Act in written submissions before the Canadian Federal Supreme Court Trial Division.
