1986-2026 Stars Fall as Untimely Figs - Leslie Lucas

    CHAPTER 1

    Vision?

Turner lifted the glass of sweet iced tea and took a long sip. The sweet cool liquid caressed his palate and he knew why the south was so fond of this amber elixir. The old family Bible was open at the familiar scripture. The new Moroccan leather covered Bible that was given to him by his family on his birthday was beautiful and he loved the supple feel of the soft leather. But a few moments ago Turner looked at the bookcase and an irrepressible desire to pull out the old worn Bible of his Dad’s swept over him like a long lost friend. He had opened it to the portion that he had been reading and the well thumbed pages with the large print contained the same message.

The words in the twelfth Chapter of Hebrews were etched in his mind. Turner remembered the first time he felt the powerful surge of the understanding that this was the writer’s view of worship when it is conducted in the midst of God’s Holy sanctuary in the ethereal atmosphere of a gathering of the innumerable company of angels. He felt the awe inspiring presence of the great cloud of witnesses. Turner became aware of the assembly of the Church of the Firstborn and his integral position within that band whose names are written in the very Heaven itself. Spiritual worship! The only kind accepted and participated in by the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Turner heard as if at a distance the ring of those words by the incarnate Christ. Not here! Not in Jerusalem! They that worship Him, Must! Worship Him in Spirit and in Truth!

Turner marveled as the surroundings faded from view and the heavenly Jerusalem materialized. He envisioned God the judge of all and along with

Him the spirits of just men made perfect. Turner’s spirit knew the next words ushered in the presence of the lamb slain from the foundation of the world. To Jesus the mediator of the new covenant and the blood that He sprinkled that spoke better things than that which Able spread on the ground. And Able had been speaking since the first family experienced the death and bloodshed of their precious son.

The air resounded with the jarring words of the announcement. See that you refuse not Him that speaketh! The dread that must have surrounded that mountain in Arabia when the Lord of Hosts came down to speak personally with his children was evident when Turner remembered that the ones that refused to hear Him then did not escape the punishment and perished in the wilderness. He was aware of the overwhelming awe that awakened the spirit inner man that realized that he would not escape if he refused to listen to the one that is the main speaker in this spiritual convocation.

Turner’s spiritual senses were quickened as he heard, in the spirit, the words of his Lord. Yet once more and I shake not the earth only, but also heaven. The words had the echo of the truth of the ages piercing deep into Turner’s heart and to the very marrow of his bones. Turner knew the next line of the scripture text but he was startled as the Lord quoted that line from the prophet Haggai. And this word, YET ONCE MORE signifies the removing of those things that are shaken, as of things that are made, that those things that cannot be shaken may remain!

The echo of the words began to fade slowly and trail off. The soft sublime cloud of the vision began to gradually lift and dissipate. Turner felt himself slowly returning from the world of the "real’ into this present environment of the temporary and of that which so slowly and imperceptibly ages with each portion of time that passes. He gazed at the page of the old book that held the eternal passages. Turner’s thoughts began to focus on the message that he had been given about the time frame of the generation of the fig tree. In the visualization he had just experienced he was becoming aware that the area of scripture that he felt moved to study were events that would happen within this generation of the fig tree.

    CHAPTER 2

    Barbara Asks

I shake not the earth only but also heaven! The words burned in Turner’s spirit. He knew that his wife, Barbara, would want to hear this latest spiritual adventure. He also wanted his pastor, Brother Howard to hear what he had seen in the scriptures and get his sense of the structure. He knew he wanted either some validation or refuting of the revelation.

Turner, Barbara said as she entered the study, I see you have the old Bible out. What are you reading?"

Turner turned in the chair as she entered and said, Well, I have had an exceptional experience just now.

I assumed as much. I came to the door a little bit ago but you were in deep thought. I see you are back.

One thing is sure I was away. You remember that part of the 12th chapter of Hebrews that I have talked so much about?

Yes, answered Barbara, I know you can’t seem to stray far from those verses when we talk about the Bible.

I know. It seems to present itself to me at the oddest times. I have wondered what it means beyond what is apparent in the words. You know, what is the deep meaning? The one that I wasn’t seeing. Have you ever had a trance, or vision, or whatever. I don’t know what to call it, anyway have you?

Barbara paused to collect her thoughts. Well Turner, I’m not really sure. I have had very real dreams. I have had intense understanding of certain verses, but, I can’t say that I have had what we might say is a vision."

Turner said, me either, but I think I may have just had one. At least it is the closest to what I have read of or heard people say they were like. Let me tell you. I was reading that part of Hebrews and I began to experience in a spiritual way the verses come alive and I was participating, you know, it was like I was in the action as the words came alive and it was like a play or movie. It was so real. I don’t know how to say this. It was more like being real than us talking here is real. It was like a more intense reality. I know I am not being clear, but, that is the best I can explain for now.

Barbara looked at Turner. Turner was very grateful for Barbara. She was never taken aback or at a loss to talk to him about his unusual experiences. She knew him in a way that accepted that if he told her something that at least she knew that he believed what he was saying. She started slowly, From what you are saying I think you must have had some episode that is much like a vision. Anyway we can call it a vision unless we find out different. As I said, I don’t think I have ever had one. I am interested to hear about it.

Amazing, Turner thought, she makes it so easy to explore what many would shy away from. Turner then proceeded to tell Barbara the whole of the experience. She listened intently. Her expressions ranged from wide eyed wonder to deep thought. Barbara suggested that he be sure and tell Brother Howard at the first opportunity.

Turner Jr. and little Samantha were already in bed. It had been almost 10 P. M. when Turner went into the study to read. He looks at the clock on the mahogany desk and notices that it is now11:30 P. M. He is very surprised. He thought that he had only read for a few minutes and then he and Barbara had discussed it for about fifteen minutes. Huh, he thought, the vision must have lasted longer than I thought.

Well, I will go to bed and the first chance I get I will talk to Brother Howard. He may have had a vision at one time. If he has I wonder if it was like what I had. Oh, well, that can wait till we talk.

    CHAPTER 3

    TJ and Sam

Turner and Barbara’s children were doing well in school. Turner Jr. was now fifteen and a sophomore at Greater Atlanta Christian. He had his mom’s talent for the business side of mathematics. T. J., what most called him, was an all around athlete. He was not as intense in his studies or his play as his Dad. He enjoyed his studies, but was not so absorbed to the extent that it bothered him to make a B at times. He did very well and was exceptionally bright but it just wasn’t the end of the world if he didn’t make all A’s.

He approached sports the same way. He enjoyed them. Turner watched T. J. and thought to himself, I wish my Dad and me could have had the seemingly pleasant experience T.J. seems to have in his studies and his play at sports. He doesn’t make a big deal about it and in some way he manages to not allow others to make it a major event. It must be his ability and not others that causes this easy engagement.

T.J. also had an innate ability to communicate easily. He could talk to his Mom or Dad and with ease compartmentalize the different relationships. And yet he loved them with equal but different intensity.

T.J. approached his Dad with his easy going manner.

Dad, he said, You have read a lot. Tell me, this time frame you have written about. Does it mean that I will only live to the year 2026, or about the age of 35?

T.J. asked it with such candor that it seemed to be the most natural thing for him to say. Turner thought, it certainly would not be a casual thing to me.

TJ, Turner said, this generation I have written about does not confine the time frame of the world activity to forty years. It simply means that anyone born in that time frame is within the generation. Therefore, the time of the last generation could extend to the life span for one born in 2026.

TJ maintained his former composure. He said, You know Dad that is what I thought you meant but I guess I needed to hear you say it.

With that he confidently turned and went his way. Turner was again amazed at his son’s maturity at his young age. He had prayed earnestly about his children and he felt assured that the Lord was taking care of them.

Now Sam, as they called Samantha, was very different from TJ. She was very interested in the mathematics and astronomy related subjects. Although she was only eleven and still in middle school at North Atlanta Christian she was mature
