The Beginning: The Legend of Larry the Lemur

The stories you are about to read concern a very special animal named Larry. What makes Larry special? Well, he talks, which is something that just about every animal cannot do. He also is highly intelligent and uses his brain to sometimes get into some very interesting situations. Situations that should not be attempted by real children.

For a more exhaustive and thorough look at real life Lemurs, one might set this book aside and find a nature book or ask a teacher for more information. If one would like to read some interesting stories about an enchanted Lemur who lives in an enchanted forest, then he or she would be highly encouraged to read on.

Here’s a fact for those sticklers who are looking for at least one true fact: Lemurs in real life live on the Island of Madagascar.

    Chapter 1

    The Exterminator

Once upon a time there was a little Lemur named Larry. Of course, you probably figured that out from the title of our story. Little Larry was the middle child of a large family of Lemurs and as such was often overlooked. Unlike other Lemurs who would probably be upset at such a situation, Larry relished the freedom that he received from his insignificance. No one could keep him from his various explorations if they had forgotten that he even existed.

Larry’s parents weren’t neglectful or careless. They were just absentminded. When one has quite a large brood of Lemur children, one doesn’t normally notice if one of them happens to wander off. It had been this way for most of the young Lemur’s life. Larry took advantage of this situation to do things that other Lemurs only dreamed about.

This situation had made Larry quite resourceful and allowed him to come up with quick solutions to his problems. After all, one would have to be quite intelligent to learn how to change one’s own diaper. He was often too impatient to wait for his parents to do it for him.

One of the most challenging events of Larry’s young life occurred when he was still crawling around. On a visit to the house of his Lemur grandparents (there are a lot of things in the Lemur world that are described with the word Lemur) he had been mistakenly left behind. Normally, one would expect one’s grandparents to simply take the child back home or place a call to one’s parents reminding them of their forgetfulness. Unfortunately for Larry, his grandparents were quite hard of hearing and nearly blind.
