      I sighed as I looked longingly at the bed, but the several dozens of hairpins had to come out. How could I sleep with so many tiny demons poking my scalp? A headache already crept along my forehead, having snaked its way from the tension in my neck. The intricate up-do pulling on my hairline was not helping.

      I thanked my brain for having the wisdom to rent a room above the benefit gala. As I resolved myself to begin the long process of stripping off my gown and freeing my hair, my cell phone on the nightstand hummed. I stumbled over my discarded heels but caught myself on the bed
