I was drowning, which didn’t make sense. I should have been asleep in a cheap Coffin apartment, but instead, I was wallowing in a cold void. Smooth, thick cream filled my nose and mouth. Cream? Dairy Cream? What the hell? I tried to draw in a breath, and my lungs burned. Oh no, no, no, said the broken little voice from somewhere beyond the darkness. No, no, no, no, no... Oh, will you give it a rest?
I tried to say, but all I could do was choke on heavy cream. Seriously, drowning in whipping cream? What the hell? Whose dream was this? The bottom of the dark space dropped away beneath me, and the cream funneled down and away from me, leaving me suspended by my ankles from an unseen ceiling by a rope I couldn’t feel. Who-
I said, but I was cut off by peals of raucous laughter out in the darkness. Hahaha really? Go Jet-boy! Okay, this one was definitely not mine. I don't know anyone or anything called ‘Jet-Boy.'
This was getting out of hand. The meds must have worn off in the night. I needed to wake up. I couldn't be dreaming like this, not without the dope. There would be... side-effects if I stayed down like this.
I reached up through the molasses of my sleeping mind, pushing up through layers of exhaustion and REM for the familiar stale emptiness of my Coffin. Morpheus stretched his lazy hands up and wrapped them about my brain, dragging me back toward oblivion. I was too tired for this. I needed to sleep. But I couldn't do so when my pills wore off.
