Chapter One

He was drunk. And in her bed. One boot off, one sock spinning lazily on the overhead fan. A bottle of Jack sat on her nightstand.

Even in the dark, even after four years of being apart, she could make out Tyler Blake's handsome face smooshed into her pillow.

Lex reached over and turned on the light switch, standing in the open doorway. He groaned and turned over onto his back, scratching his belly. The button and zipper on his jeans were open, revealing that he'd chosen to go commando—as was his habit. Wiry, raven hair exposed by the opening taunted her.

Inhaling a breath of grit, she walked over to the side of the bed and winced when she saw a blueberry-colored bruise above his left eye. Other than that, he seemed to be in one piece. Just as she moved her hand forward, wanting to run her palm over his smooth chest, she snatched it back and kicked the side of the bed instead.

What are you doing here?

He gave a few snorts then opened his eyes just a sliver. Turn the damn light off. Tyler used a forearm to block out the glare. He then peaked at her and drawled, Pretty please.

Get into another bar fight? She refused to comply, found his T-shirt lying on the floor, and threw it at him.

At last, he roused himself, scooting up and against the headboard. "Another bar fight? He slipped the shirt on over his head and Lex cursed the barrier hiding his perfectly muscled torso from view. You know damn well I've only been in one fight in my life."

How could I forget? She wanted out of her confining scrubs, but that would have to wait. She stripped off her shoes and socks then shrugged out of her hoodie, wondering why he was here and why she wasn't angrier with the fact. Care to tell me why you're in my bed and three thousand miles away from Baltimore? She laid her jacket over the chair near her, staring at the man she'd once loved more than anything ever.

He didn't deserve you, Lex, and you know it. He frowned hard. I don't give a fuck if he was my brother.

She waved a hand to stop his words. Did you come all this way just to tell me 'I told you so'? The divorce was three years ago! It was hard to make eye contact, though she refused to look away.
