Author’s Note: This is an intensely personal story for me. I served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Senegal, West Africa, for two years in the mid-2000’s. It remains one of the most incredible experiences of my life. Living in a small, rural village with no modern amenities, I got a sense for how most Senegalese people truly lived. In contrast, on the occasions when I joined fellow volunteers for a little R&R on the coast or in the city, another world was revealed. We were young, carefree Americans on vacation, but all around us were jaded European tourists looking for sex, and plenty of gorgeous African men and women to accommodate them. My intention with this story is not to vilify sex tourism, or those who partake in it.
