About this ebook

Have you ever woken up and found yourself in the middle of a different life? One moment Siren was in the hospital and the next thing she knows she’s married with children. Not only is she married, but her husband is a politician, she is involved in a torrid affair, and nothing in her life makes sense. Yet, there is something comforting in the fantasy, and rather than fight it, Siren is content to lose herself in it.

On the other side of things, Fred and Harry are searching high and low for any sign of where Siren might be. One moment she was in the hospital, and the next moment she was gone. With Harry struggling to conquer his grief over Sabrina and Fred believing the worst has happened to Siren, the two men are somewhat on edge as they try to find out where Siren is before something really terrible happens.

Will Siren spend the rest of her life in a confusing parallel reality? Will Fred and Harry be able to find out what’s happened to their friend before it’s too late? Or is this the last hurrah for the troublesome trio?

When we’re dancing cheek to cheek

When waltzing around a ballroom with a man that isn’t your husband in front of hundreds of people, the last thing you want to happen is to trip over your dress.

It’s one thing that men don’t understand about the slinky, long ball gowns that create an instant impression – when combined with those killer high heels that make our legs look like the only thing they’ll ever want wrapped around them, it can be something akin to lethal.

    Especially on staircases.

My husband was celebrating his latest political victory with a large ball that included all of his supporters and two of his enemies.

The walls had red, white and blue bunting hung all over them and a large brass band was playing the accompanying music as I was being whisked around the dancefloor.

My hair was pinned up with a few trailing tresses. Diamonds adorned my throat, wrist, fingers and ears and my body was covered with a red, low cut, backless dress that swept the ground.

We were surrounded by other couples dancing and at a table to the side of the room, my husband was sat with his closest cronies.

My name is Nicolette MacDonald and the man I was dancing with was far more dangerous than I wanted to know.

You really are beautiful. he breathed in my ear as his hand slipped further down my waist.

I think the diamonds help with that. I replied shortly.

You'd be more beautiful without them. he chuckled. I felt the hair on the back of my neck stand up on end. He pulled me closer so that his leg brushed against mine as we moved.

My husband and his four flunkies were watching us closely, their faces darkening with every passing second.

Are you trying to seduce me? I asked, trying to keep my heart from bursting out of my chest.

I am merely telling you that you are beautiful and may even be more exquisite to look upon when stood before me without any of the finery that you currently bear. he smiled in reply.

So yes then, Mr Barlow. I looked at him with a smug expression on my face.

There are not many occasions when a woman like me would be caught dancing with a man like Frederick J. Barlow. It is arguable that this occasion was one of the most individual of my life; I mean it's not every day that your husband is elected to government.

Yes, I am trying to seduce you. Fred whispered to me.

A dangerous man takes me onto the dance floor, under the nose of my husband and tries to seduce me? You really think that it will work? I asked innocently.

Yes, I do. Because you are bored, bored and looking for adventure. Mr. Barlow replied, his lips brushing my ear.

And what does adventure look like? I asked, resisting the urge to lean my head against his shoulder.

A dangerous man taking you onto the dance floor, seducing you right under the nose of your husband and stealing you away into the night. Fred grinned and I felt his fingers digging into my waist.

Sounds like kidnapping to me. I sighed.

Only if you decide to resist. he
