CHRISTINE LYNNE STORMER-FRYER

Affectionately known as the ‘Universal Foot Lady’, Christine Lynne Stormer-Fryer is renowned globally for her innovative and pioneering spirit. Her more “wholistic” and visionary approach to healing makes sure that natural remedies keep pace with the phenomenal strides in human evolution. A renowned authority on natural healing and health, Christine constantly receives invitations to be a guest or keynote speaker at International Congresses and Conferences, as well as give seminars, workshops and presentations throughout the world, which she has been doing since 1992. In 2000, and again in 2009, Christine had hoped to ‘put her feet up’ to write more books, but the requests for her to continue presenting this phenomenal Universal wisdom grew so much that her presentations are now more popular than ever! With the ever-increasing demand for new books and more courses, Christine feels honoured to share the wealth of universal knowledge, aware of how much it adds meaning to life. Now married to her wonderful husband, John Fryer, Christine’s two brilliant sons, Andrew and David, have long since left home to pursue successful careers in London, United Kingdom. Christine realises that her soul journey is only just beginning, despite having already encouraged thousands of individuals worldwide to ‘stand on their own two feet’. Hot-Footing it to Health - CHRISTINE LYNNE STORMER-FRYER

For all my loyal organisers worldwide

    HI-STORY

This book, conceived in 2009, was put on the backburner since neither it—nor I—were ready to come out. More time was required for both of us to evolve and grow. So, first, about me.

Born a free spirit to my conventional British parents in Nairobi, Kenya, during the colonial days, my Dad was a strict army officer, and Mum was a gentle soul, the social secretary to the Governor, later President of Kenya). They expected me to be ‘perfect’, which brought me down to Earth with a bang, fortuitously paving the way for my soul’s journey. Further compounding matters, my brother, not too crazy about the arrival of his cute blond, blue-eyed sister, decided that drowning me in the fish pond at the age of two was the solution to his problem. Perhaps that’s why I loved boarding school so much, along with the amazing opportunities it offered such as climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro and Mt. Kenya as a teenager.

Knowing that everybody chooses their occupation to pave the way to become better at being oneself, my career selection was a testament to this. Once completing my schooling, I chose to follow in the footsteps of Great Granny Annie from Wales, and trained to be a nurse at St. Thomas’s Hospital in London. It was ideal for licking many self-inflicted emotional wounds. My ulterior motive for enrolling to do midwifery training at Queen Charlotte’s Maternity Hospital in London, was to become an Outback nurse in Australia and marry one of those delicious flying doctors from the Mills and Boon’s romantic novels that I had devoured as a teenager! As naïve as that was, and

again, placed in context, it prepared me—of course—for giving birth, and channelling innovative Universal concepts later in life.

Instead of Australia, I found myself in Fort Worth, Texas, working as a nurse in a gunshot wound and stabbing ward, a far cry from the premature babies’ ward requested. It was an experience of note. Here, I fell in love with a Texan, freshly released from prison for drug pushing. Still green around the ears, I had absolutely no idea what drug pushing was!  My somewhat alarmed parents—on discovering what was going on—plucked me from the bosom of disaster, plonking me back in England.

Why I applied to be an occupational health sister at the Charing Cross Hospital in London is still a mystery. Even more puzzling was being chosen from over two thousand applicants. But it just wasn’t for me. Depressed, overweight and suicidal, I nearly jumped from the thirteenth floor of the nurse’s home. To be honest, what saved me was my concern over the dreadful mess I’d make on hitting the concrete. A drastic life change seemed a far better option. So I took up health visiting. My beat, ranging from the scandalous slums of Shrublands to the salubrious mansions in Oxted, was a real eye-opener, giving me incredible insight into the diversity of humankind.

In 1980—soon after marrying a proper English gentleman in Bletchingley, England —we emigrated to Johannesburg, South Africa. Already experienced at selling sunglasses in Harrods and jewellery in Selfridges in Oxford Street on my days off, I took a job selling Scholl shoes in a large department store in downtown Johannesburg, before joining Drake International as a personnel consultant.

Despite the powers-that-be doubting my abilities, and to everybody’s surprise (especially my own), I ranked third worldwide within three months.  I continued working there on a part-time basis after the birth of my two wonderful sons, Andrew in 1982, and David in 1984, while also running a sandwich business from home with my school pal, Shannon.  Not one to sit at home doing nothing, I was happily roped into being the Chairperson of the PTA committee at Andrew’s farm nursery school, painting woodland murals and making curtains, along with organising barn dances for corporations with the well-known Keith Blundell.

After successfully setting up Medox, the medical division of Drake, my friend Wendy and I purchased a health studio, offering a range of marvellous treatments. Reflexology—a training I had painfully endured—was the one that was constantly in demand. It was pressing feet so hard that it hurt that didn’t resonate with my compassionate nature.

I became a staunch septic of this natural therapy—until the Universe stepped in. With my husband and I divorcing in 1989, I found myself with no home, a miniscule amount of money, no insurance policies, and my two wonderful young sons, aged five and seven. That same month, Wendy upped and married, moving to another city, leaving the Health Studio, plus a massive overdraft, in my intrepid hands. This all coincided with the opening of the doors of my new business—the Reflexology Academy of Southern Africa.

Serendipitously, reflexology had come to my rescue. A stream of media attention soon put reflexology—and me—on the map, and within six months the Academy received international recognition at a time that South Africa was ostracised.  A year later, at the Second World Acupuncture Congress in Beijing, China, many of the 3,000 delegates from twenty-seven countries were intrigued by the Universal Approach to Feet. I soon received even more invitations to be a keynote speaker in America, Canada, Israel, Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Ireland and South Africa, with requests to present workshops in Greece, Hong Kong, and Japan.

Considered a world authority on the subject and affectionately known as the Universal Foot Lady worldwide, I have authored and published seven books with Hodder and Stoughton, London, with some of the books translated into other languages, including Japanese.

Now happily married to my wonderful husband, John, I continue to give presentations internationally, while fulfilling my passion of hosting fabulous African Soul Safaris at our Country Estate in the Waterberg, South Africa, as well as Magical Dolphin Safaris in Mozambique with my Soul Daughter, Courtney Ward.

But, enough about me, and more about this Divinely inspired book...

    MORE ABOUT THIS BOOK

    Life is like a book

Bodies are generally taken for granted. Many people believe that, no matter what, the body will just carry on regardless. Loved, hated, fed, starved, dressed, undressed, abused, and cared for, few are aware of its innermost sacred needs. Chosen to be the soul’s home for a lifetime, the body—as a living vehicle for mind and spirit—deserves to be respected and cherished. If not looked after in the hands of its owner, it’s unlikely that anybody else will. Making friends with the body and getting to know it well is, therefore, vital.

Naturally healthy, the body is its own best apothecary, filling out its own successful prescriptions. Enchanting concepts and amenable emotions delight mind, body and spirit, encouraging them to perform particularly well. Relied upon to release anything that wastes time and energy, the excretory organs make space for the reproductive organs to generate new concepts, depending on the amount of basic security.

Ultimately everything and everybody is neutral until inevitable interactions incur changes. Whether favourable, adverse, or indeterminate, the outer world is instrumental in drawing attention to what’s going on in the deep confines of the physique. Much can be learned from the way that challenges are dealt with. Repressed issues, too unpleasant to face, may suddenly surface, causing physical difficulties. Feet, being the platforms on which the body takes a stand, provide remarkable under-stand-ing as to the ‘ins and outs’ of what it is to be human.

Colour, as well as specific elements, has a profound influence on physical and spiritual well-being. As hue-mans, the ‘manifestation of many hues’, with hues emanating from ‘energy centres’ within—otherwise known as chakras—the body energetically resonates to many shades of colour.

PURPLE, for instance, infiltrates the thoughtful parts shaped by the ‘frame of mind’. Ethereal notions, coloured by belief systems, frequently sway the brain’s decisions, but not always to the benefit of the body.

Connecting the BLUE of heaven above with the waters below, the expressive sections of being human, link the head with the trunk. It’s the neck’s flexibility that offers the opportunity to see every point of view, whilst broad shoulders assist in responding to life’s events appropriately.

GREEN resonates to the emotional areas. With eyes insightfully adjusted to the brain’s point of view, feelings kept close to the chest are intensely impacted.

The active and reactive portions of the body resound to YELLOW, embodied in the upper part of the digestive tract. Continually processing whatever is taken on board assists in giving a gut feel as to what to do, or not do, next.

ORANGE excites the communicative components with water, facilitating the give and take in life. Particularly pertinent to personal relationships that, in turn, alter the fluid composition of the body.

RED, allocated to the social portions, keeps feet on the ground, with Earth offering stability to move a-head.

Too often, personal power is placed in the ‘wrong’ hands, which is why it’s important to break free from moulds of unrealistic social expectations. With a more balanced approach to life, it’s so much easier to embrace and deal with inevitable ups and downs. Self-empowering insights, along with pure love, are, ultimately, the keys to health. With personal power regained, all blame can be removed. Reflexology—a highly effective natural therapy—along with insights offered in this book,  facilitate this process.

Presented in an informal, yet informative manner, this book aims to capture the reader’s imagination in ingenious and easily-relatable ways. In so doing, blessings can be found every step of the way. Enjoy!

    WHAT’S ALL THE FUSS ABOUT?

    DIS-EASE IS A FRIEND

    So treat it better!

A life that is covered in layers of confusion, disappointment, anger, distress, frustration, poor relationships, financial lack, medication, and dependency, chokes the body, almost to death. But what other option does it have? Illness and dis-ease, viewed as terrible inconveniences, make life a misery—yet they are actually amazing allies. Proverbial wake-up calls—warnings that something is dreadfully wrong and desperately needs fixing before the heart gives up hope completely. Generally, only a part of the body hurts or malfunctions. Health-wise, the bulk of the body remains in reasonable shape, aiding the ailing part in overcoming painful emotions. Uneasiness within is the ideal opportunity to take time out, reassess life and make necessary changes, it’s a perfect opportunity for finding ways to feel better about oneself and life in general. With irrational thoughts out of the way, symptoms of disease and displeasure soon dissipate. Disease, manifesting true feelings, guides the body back onto its feet, with a good old foot massage hastening the process.

The value of health is seldom appreciated, until it is lost!

    VICTIM OR VICTOR

A sick body is a prison— a healthy body a haven for the soul

Health and dis-ease don’t just happen—it’s a choice between being a victim or a victor. An unhealthy preoccupation with past hurts is so universally sickening that disease is now more rampant than ever. Throwing the body into a battle zone, dark negative feelings sap it of vital life-force energy. Compounded by the tremendous pressure to fit in, there’s a never-ending list of numbers, backed by statistics, constantly ascribed to all aspects of wellness, from food to fitness levels. Adding fat to the fire is the contentious figure-weight-checking scale, used to vainly attempt to measure up to the bodies of supermodels. Starved and deprived, hungering after much-craved love and appreciation, the skinny malink struggles dreadfully within. Eventually, the body just doesn’t feel good about anything. Victims—plagued and shocked by a terrible onslaught of awful memories and misleading beliefs—are easy targets when it comes to buying into perpetual drama. Fearful allegations spread rapidly, horrifying the mind and crippling the body, while the ‘same old, same old’ soon gets so out of hand that appalling growths of discontent breed, either benignly or malignantly. Victors, on the other hand, are pictures of good health, attributed to a happy frame of mind filled with good thoughts and benevolent feelings. Whether victim or victor, reflexology knows exactly what to do for health to be appreciated and cherished always.

Without health and happiness, life is valueless!

    MAKING AN ISSUE

    Hanging on for dear life

Dis-ease isn’t some dreaded lurgy loitering outside, waiting to pounce into the body to fill it with hurt, pain and misery simply because it happens to be passing by. Souls have contracts, not only with the Universe but with everybody and everything encountered on its journey through life. There are no accidents or disasters, only incidents that jog the memory. The reason? To jerk the spirit back on track when found to be straying from its original soul agreement. Promises can be bewildering. Criminal acts have terrible consequences, terrorising the living daylights out of others. Yet these extreme measures are designed to bring victims back to their senses. Robbing oneself of opportunities, emotionally blackmailing others, raping the land—the list goes on—are bound to have dreadful consequences. The general reluctance to forgive fills body and mind with self-pity. Giving up the coveted victim role means forfeiting the opportunity to indulge and wallow in tears, without the opportunity to generate sympathy. It is the victim, and not the predator, who generally suffers. Trapped in bitterness, cynicism and disillusionment—imprisoned by the past, small matters become big threats with the issues showing up through painful tissues. Freed from self-inflicted internment, reflexology helps the soul to forgive itself, along with the reminder that everybody is a gift, having a vital role to play in life.

No soul is role-less—every body has a purpose!

    NO THANKS TO THE MEMORY

The past robs the present of its energy and opportunities

Filled with horrendous memories, it’s no surprise that the body reacts badly.  Consciously trying to shut them out, without dealing with contentious issues, doesn’t make them go away. The energy just shifts. Taking up residence instead in the subconscious with incidences and people jogging the memory. Being in two minds, mentally trotting back and forth, is human nature. Depending on conceptual gymnastics, certain terrifying memories are embellished, kept petrifyingly alive. Exhausted from running around in circles, getting nowhere fast, the body hates being taken for granted. All-consumed by a dreadful past eventually threatens personal well-being. Furious at others for not pulling their weight, irritated at having to constantly pick up the pieces, frustrated at not having a helping hand, and livid at having great ideas ignored gets on its wick, until it eventually decides to put a foot down. Feet, the body’s spokespersons, have much to say on the body’s behalf, using the language of the feet to do so.

It’s okay to occasionally visit the past as a point of reference,

but it’s not okay not to dwell there!

    STRESS OR DISTRESS

The body pulls out all the stops

Being stressed out and reacting under pressure fills the mind and body with goodness knows what.  Stress, invariably blamed, gets such bad press. Yet, in itself, stress isn’t bad—in fact, it’s vital. If it weren’t for stress, the body wouldn’t have any energy. It needs stress in order to be vigilant and stand up for itself. After all, one person’s stress is another’s challenge. It’s distress that is the killer! With society being so achievement-oriented, distress is the inevitable side effect. Feeling overwhelming self-doubt, extreme apprehension, with expectations of the worst causing tension in an already-uptight body, often stops it in its tracks. It may even move fearfully backwards. When handled incorrectly, the body’s defences break down, opening it to dis-ease. From then onwards, every defensive action or reaction becomes a protective mechanism against fear. Constant unpleasantness invariably shows up as symptoms of distress—internal responses to external changes—with the instigator dwelling ominously within. Exhilarating thoughts have the exact opposite effect. Filled with excitement and enthusiasm, and eager to get the hands on something worthwhile, the body becomes alert. Thrilled to move forward, it may even break into a run to get there faster. The secret is to beat distress—to step back and take time out, to inhale a deep breath and regain composure before deciding on the next best step to take. Reflexology, a stress-buster of note, helps reboot confidence and courage, resuscitating the whole.

    Too blessed to be stressed!

    CHEMISTRY WITHIN

The substance the body is made of!

Incessant mind chatter, with its inherent content or discontent, compliments or complaints, gratification or disgruntlement, manufactures pleasure or displeasure in the body. Everything taken on board psychologically affects the biological makeup, ultimately regulating its chemistry. Having absolutely no say in what formulas the mind is going to invent and dish out, the body has no choice but to either like it or lump it. Nauseating chunks of gripes and groans mixed with preposterous portions of depressing hopelessness and stirred by incessant self-flagellation, make it gag. This formidable blend constantly drags the body down. With fermenting resentment, noxious notions, lethal intent, and agitated feelings brewing away unstoppably beneath the surface, contaminating the whole. Oodles of toxic gases, bubbling away until reaching boiling point, ultimately throwing the body’s chemical make-up completely out of sync. With the inner environment now contaminated, the outer environment becomes polluted. External irritants, in the form of bugs, foods, people—and so on, and so on—are employed to agitate and, through troublesome symptoms, show that things are far from being up to standard. These red lights are a final warning that a full-blown dis-ease could soon take over in next to no time. Feet, speedily detecting the dire state of affairs, welcome the intervention of reflexology before the body is completely sabotaged by a distraught mind. Massaging the feet gives the heart the opportunity to butt in and fill the blood to the brim with endless spurts of loving desire. Good dollops of fervour are so much easier to swallow, helping each miniscule cell attain and maintain a good chemical balance.

    Everybody concocts their own chemistry!

    GROWING DISPLEASURE

    Knowing no end!

Fear, seeping into all aspects of life, can be seriously damaging when it takes over. A controlling force, it acts as a pause button, wretchedly compromising worthwhile projects, or bringing them to an abrupt standstill. As it trickles through the mind, its source, being of a negative nature, distorts and amplifies the meaning and interpretation of words. Penetrating as deep as the mind allows it, fear needlessly consumes copious amounts of precious energy. Simply an illusion of terrifying thoughts, unsubstantiated aggravation and absolute terror, fear has the potential to imprison the mind and torture the body. It feeds off fear, needing more fear to grow. By keeping valuable energies trapped in the lower aspect of the base chakra, it becomes seriously disempowering. Fear of illness, fear of death, fear of loneliness, fear of ageing, fear of disappointment, and so on, contribute to uneasiness, with all dis-eases labelled a fear of change. Fear paves the way towards poor human relations, with fear of abundance being a sure way to keep humanity limited, not just financially, but in every which way. Robbing the soul when hung onto indefinitely, fear will only dissipate when willing to let go. The courage to stand confidently in spiritual alignment comes from reflexology, making sure that there’s little or no room for scepticism, guilt and self-hatred.

Fear limits opportunities, whilst highlighting what the soul craves the most!

SHOOTING THE SELF IN THE FOOT

Own worst enemy, or is it enema?

It’s far from pleasant being disliked and having others gang up, especially when feeling vulnerable and utterly helpless. Past demons have a nasty habit of raising their threatening heads, bringing back haunting memories to test the mind and body. Revelling in sympathy is inadvertently akin to shooting oneself in the foot. When it comes to inherited dis-eases, these stem from a belief being kept alive that still resides ‘in her’ (in-her-it). It is only by refusing to buy into these inborn beliefs that the vicious cycle can be brought to an end once and for all. Even after skipping a generation—often considered a fluke—fear may creep back in, with the possibility of setting the whole fear-full sequence in motion again. In every family, issues stretching back many generations manifest in the tissues—hence the-issues. It takes guts to courageously step out of line and stay there, refusing to buy into inborn drama. As each generation works out puzzling situations and finds effective solutions, the concerns diminish and become less threatening. Aided by reflexology, it’s easier to become impervious and more self-reliant, with ample strength and more than enough insight to compassionately deal with passed-down issues.

The past cannot change, but it can ruin the present by worrying about the future!

    NO USE WORRYING

It only drains mind and body!

Worriers wallow in victim consciousness, depriving themselves of so many exciting opportunities. Even the grass has time to grow beneath their feet. Not being the solution, and rarely improving situations, matters go from bad to worse. Worrying—being an impractical tradition of the intellect—is such a destructive habit. For it to exist, something terrifying has to be conjured up to instil panic at feeling so out of control. Tormenting
