I would have loved the story more, but the heroin appears to be too weak and does not know how to be a guardian of two teenagers who need good talking to, especially at a time when a lady's chastity is a very important attribute.

Flint's Mail Order Bride - Cia Leah

Chapter One

Flint Walker set the table and yelled for his brothers to come and eat. He had so much work to do today, but taking care of his brothers always came first. That included getting their meals cooked, making sure they had clean clothes on, and getting their chores done.

Even though they were old enough to take care of themselves, they thought life’s sole purpose was to have fun and leave all responsibility to him. He’d just about had enough of letting them take advantage of him.

Flint set the food on the table and poured each of them a cup of coffee, and then sat down at his place at the head of the table. Clint ran through the door first followed by Brit, and sat down at the table. Both of you get up and wash your hands. How many times do I have to tell you that you got to wash up before you eat? He stared at them and ran a hand through his hair. If ma was here and could see you both now, she would tan your hides. Since she passed on, you two have become wilder than you were when you were little boys.

Clint shoved up from the table, pushed Brit aside, and made a beeline for the pump at the sink. I’m going first Brit!

No you aren’t! I got up first!

Flint placed his hands on the table, stood up, and walked over to his brothers, grabbing each of them by the back of the neck. If you two don’t settle down right this minute and wash up, then neither one of you are going to eat. I’m weary of the hassle you two give me. Goodness sakes, you are both eighteen years old and old enough to know better. Now if you two can’t wash up on your own, I’m going to throw both of you in the horse trough!

Clint punched Flint on the arm and grinned. You wouldn’t do that to us, big brother. After all, if it wasn’t for us being here you’d be all alone.

Clint left go of their necks and returned to the table. I want to discuss something with both of you while we eat. This household is about to have another person living here. He sipped his coffee and waited for his brothers to sit down before proceeding. When they pulled out their chairs and sat down, he bowed his head. Dear Heavenly Father, we thank you for our food and blessings. Please give my future wife a safe journey and give her the strength and patience to teach my brothers the error of their ways. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.

He watched his brothers dig into their food like two starved animals. He shook his head and took a few bites of his food before leaning back in his chair. I know the uppermost thing on your minds is filling your bellies, but I haven’t got all day. I’ve got work to do because I’ll bet you haven’t even done your chores yet. He saw Brit’s face turn red as he shoved a whole slice of bread into his mouth all at once. The boy’s cheeks bulged and Clint shook his head. If you put any more in your mouth you are going to choke. Slow down and eat right. Sometimes I don’t know how ma put up with you two."

Clint smiled. Ma loved us. You’re just too strict. Remember ma saying that boys will be boys?

Flint took a couple bites of his home fries before answering. Mother would never put up with your manners or the way you have been acting since she passed on. She wouldn’t be proud of you and would probably box your ears for all the mischief you both are causing.

Brit cleared his throat. He’s probably right, Clint. Ma would be madder than a wet hornet at the shenanigans we’ve been pulling of late.

Flint nodded. That she would. Now, I’ll be going into town tomorrow and picking up my bride. She arrives on the noon stage and we will be married immediately. I expect both of you to be cleaned up and dressed in your suits for the wedding. If Flint didn’t want them to know that he was serious, he would’ve laughed out loud at the expressions on their faces. He waited for the initial shock to wear off. Clint was the first to drag in a deep breath before
