Kidnapped For the King

Chapter 1

Saskia ran through the tall brush; she could hear the footsteps gaining on her but she didn’t slow down. The grass cushioned her bare feet as she ran. Out of breath, she finally stopped behind a large oak tree. Her dress was covered in dirty but it didn’t matter now, she saw the man who was persuing her and she ducked behind the tree.

You can run my dear, but I will find you, said the man.

She knew she only had one shot to freedom. She counted to three and ran from her hiding place but she was too late. While she had been hiding he had snuck around the tree.

Damn it, Colton, how can I get any work done with you chasing me? She asked him lovingly. She couldn’t be mad at her best friend.

My lady, if you would marry me like I want, you would never have to work another day, the muscular man leaned in to kiss her, but Saskia knew his games. She ducked down and laughed as he kissed the tree.

I’ll never wed my dear Colton, not you or another man, my heart is with the wilderness. She turned from him and ran back to her village of Old Saxony. It was small but it was home. Her parents had died years ago when she was a young girl. A terrible sickness had swept through the valley. She had survived since then only because she was gifted.

Her mother had taught her early on the skill of sewing. Now she made her way through trading her skills for food and other needs. Of course, Colton hadn’t been the first man to try and tame her, and she had no doubt that he wouldn’t be the last. Thankfully, her father had taught her how to fight; he had always wanted a boy.

She smelled the smoke before she saw the fires burning. As she rose over the hill protecting her village, she was blindsided by a man on horseback. Her village was being raided. She didn’t have time to react before she felt a hand on her neck.

Let go of me you brute! she screamed at her assailant as she kicked backward.

He ignored her pleas and pushed her to the ground before tying her hands behind her back.

Look here men! I’ve got a live one, he said as he stood her back up.

I’ll kill you! She screamed.

The man laughed at her and put a disgusting piece of cloth in her mouth before tying it behind her head, you’re more than welcome to try lass, but I don’t feel very scared. You’re nothing more than a waif!

She continued to fight him as he threw her over his horse. The animal was covered in a thick sheepskin saddle. Saskia stopped moving immediately, she was frozen in terror. Her people didn’t use sheepskin, it was too soft to stand up to their lifestyle. Only one group of raiders in the area used them. They were known for their brutality, Vikings. Her attitude
