Rupert The Mage - Alan Millan

    Chapter 1

Riiiing! Riiiing! The alarm went off brutally. Sophie opened one eye, then the other one then closed them and hid under the covers. She didn’t want the same routine. Waking up, putting her make-up on and dressing-up, rushing to work, sitting on the same freaking desk for almost 3 years now in a multinational, same boring 9 to 5 job she was so afraid of.

Not this again! she mumbled. While thinking on some reason she can bring up to miss work today, she realized that she actually needs this job to pay her bills.

Adulthood, she said to herself while sniffing the same shirt she wore two days ago. Yeah, that should do it.

Riding the bus to work, Sophie used to daydream a lot. She still believed she somehow missed her Hogwarts letter and that’s why she’s doomed to live as a muggle for the rest of her life. But she wasn’t willing to give up on her dreams without a fight.

At 24 years old, she was far from being like the rest of her kind. Mainly because she had a colorful imagination since she was just a child, adding up all the Harry Potter saga that she devoured when she was little, plus a few (actually a lot) of youtube videos of Chris Angel, there was a pile of elements that made Sophie unique.

She was a believer, she knew there’s something more to this world. She was destined to be great.

Caught up in her thoughts, Sophie almost missed the station where she needed to get off. It would have been the third time this week of getting late to work because of missing the bus station. So close! she whispered.

The elevator was moving so slow, it felt that a sloth was pulling up the wires. And also, really crowded. Sophie got to her desk and felt a judgy look. Jessica, her dumb co-worker was onto her, waiting another chance to speak badly about her to the manager.

Snitches get stitches, Jessica whispered Sophie with a malicious smile, while passing next to her. Sophie could be really intimidating when she feels like it.

Turning on the laptop and checking her inbox, Sophie realized she had 200 unread e-mails from yesterday. Oh, come on! This must be a joke!. There should have been a spell or something to fix them all with one click. And there was.

Delete all? So tempting. Nope, not today, you haven’t paid the rent. Sophie decided to be a responsible adult. But she needed an Instagram break to cope with the pain. That’s what every full grown-up person does early in the morning, at the office, right? Scrolling through her newsfeed, her heart almost stopped.

No way! That’s absolutely tremendous! Finally! A good news! There was an ad for the magic show of Rupert The Mage. Her favorite illusionist nowadays. She was obsessed with his performances, but she never got to see him live.

Today’s the day! She proceeded to buy the tickets but her bank account needed some magic itself. $50 and for more weeks
