Dust Land #2: Rising From The Ashes

About this ebook
In the middle of a worldwide apocalypse that is slowly killing everything, Allison Mason has found a little piece of Heaven. The United Nations funded research facility UNIFED. Here there is food, shelter, and even electricity. And on the top floor of the subterranean facility, there are genetically altered plants meant to grow in any environment and feed the world.
Little did they know that they would need them now.
Allison is going to help the researchers go back up to the surface to plant the seeds of the Charity trees inside New York City's Central Park. Armed with rifles and shotguns, they brave the cannibals and their own fears to take the first step towards healing a devastated Earth.
Not all of them will make it back to the safety of UNIFED. And those who do, may wish they hadn't.

Chapter One
Allison woke slowly, into the land of dreams and wonder. It wasn’t exactly Disneyland, and New York City was a far cry from Heaven, but she figured she’d stumbled into the next best thing.
The bed she slept on was soft and the sheets had been freshly washed just last night. It was narrow and smelled like a hospital room but it was the first real bed she’d slept on in over a year. She’d been wearing the same clothes for nearly a month now, but at least they could be washed every few days. And Chris had promised her to go clothes shopping with her today.
She stopped, her bare feet just touching the cold tiled floor of her room. Clothes shopping. That wasn’t exactly what they were going to do. In a world where death came from the very food you ate and the few remaining people might kill you for the shoes on your feet, you didn’t just go shopping for new clothes. You snuck your way into whatever building might have something useful, grabbed what you could, and snuck out again.
And you hoped the Nibblers didn’t find you while you were doing it.
A cold shiver slid up the curve of her spine all the way to her long auburn hair. She wrapped her arms around her breasts and wished she had some pajamas to keep her warm. But then, she knew the chill she’d just experienced had nothing to do with the air conditioning in this place. Even now, safely tucked away below ground level, she still feared the cannibals running loose in New York City, the eaters of flesh with their cute nickname of Nibblers. She had come close to being killed and eaten by them before falling, literally, into this research facility. If it hadn’t been for her new friend Pete, she probably would have been.
A sound of scrabbling claws made her head spin to her left in time to see the huge dark shadow leap at her. She only had time to raise her arms up defensively and squeal as she fell backward under the weight of the shaggy beast.
A rough tongue started licking her naked flesh. Yuck! Abercrombie, stop it!
She laughed as she pushed at the big German shepherd. It was Chris’ dog, the unofficial mascot of UNIFED. Abercrombie was a pretty amazing sight all
