About this ebook

A liquor store robbery (even if it was accidental) wasn’t mentioned on the list of potential activities when a twelve-year-old John Redstand became the youngest member of The Water Balloon Gang that hot summer’s morning.

“Now more cops are here with guns pointed at us...” Johnny exclaimed [into the phone]. “I don’t know if they’ve gotta warrant, but they got guns and dogs!”

One of the funniest short stories you will ever read. Teetering between tenable testimony and far-fetched fable, this trainwreck of mayhem will keep you entertained and on your toes. Take a first person journey in this hilarious adventure that unfolds during a single, calamitous day in the life of our young protagonist.

Most of the neighborhood dogs had tagged along with us, they really didn’t like to be left out of any activities. I think some of those dogs were afraid to go to sleep at night, for fear they might miss out on something.

There were about twenty of us kids with water bombs at the ready, hiding behind the bushes on the side of the highway where we waited for a car to come along. I’m pretty sure one of the older guys had seen something like this on TV or in a movie the night before and convinced us it would be a great adventure for a hot summer morning.

At that age, none of us realized that chucking water balloons at a car traveling down the road at fifty-five miles an hour could actually be dangerous, especially considering our numbers. Back then, most highways—at least in our part of the country—were made out of concrete and had expansion joints about every fifteen feet. As a result, even if you were crouched down behind the shrubs, you could tell how fast the cars were going from the tempo of the thump, thump, thump the tires made as they
