ANI BASS ALLOWED THE sun to soak into her skin as the sea breeze made her hair tickle her neck.  This is what vacations should be like, she thought.  The glow of light penetrated her eyelids with a warm, muted yellow.  Safe in the fact that she'd put on the strongest sun-block she could find, Ani relaxed and enjoyed the peace that wrapped around her.

A sharp, sudden scream pierced the silence, making Ani jump upright on her sandy blanket.  The scream faded into the screeches of the seagulls overhead, stirred up in a panic.  She waited for some further evidence of the blood curdling sound, unsure of which direction it originated.
