Chapter 1: The Skinny on Skin

Skin issues

The human is made up of 15% skin making it the largest organ of the body. Your skin is a living, breathing, and care-needing part of the body. It is one of the most important organs because it is made up of millions of cells and is responsible for some of the most vital functions. The skin’s functions include shielding the internal organs from ultraviolet rays, preventing invasion by harmful foreign matters and bacteria, holding all the other organs together, eliminating waste and regulating temperature through perspiration, serving as a sensory receiver in times of danger or pleasure, and even communicating a person’s feelings through blushing when embarrassed and paling when in fear. The skin also appears to brighten up when a person is relaxed and happy. On the other hand, it appears haggard and ashen when you feel down and sad.

The epidermis, however, is the layer that is constantly exposed to irritants, pollutants, and harmful foreign bodies. The epidermis is also where old skin cells are sloughed off and where new skin cells are formed every 28 to 30 days.

With the appropriate preventive and corrective attention, a distressed epidermis can be stimulated, rejuvenated, and virtually reborn. Preventive care includes minimizing and evading exposure to harsh weather, extreme temperatures, and harmful UV rays. Corrective care, on the other hand, involves repairing skin issues such as acne, blemishes, breakouts, shedding, and dry skin through proper cleansing; reversing aging, correcting damage resulting from wounds, and many more. Proper skincare will result to skin functions efficiently and looks great which reflects the beauty within. This is where healing soaps do their thing; their magic, if you will.

Reasons in using soaps

Let's take a look at the reasons we use soap. People use soap to cleanse the skin and get rid of dirt and grime; and to feel fresh and fragrant. People also use soaps to treat skin infections and correct skin issues. However, the reality is that modern soaps give people a clean feeling by putting the emphasis
