Rohvannyn Shaw
Rohvannyn Shaw studied art from the first moments she could get her hands around a crayon – not one of those chunky toddler crayons, mind you. She fussed until her Mom got her a real box of crayons and she's been drawing since. Having been raised by two writers, she also loved to read from an early age and always enjoyed telling stories. This emerges in the form of novels, short tales, the occasional poem, and non fiction articles that still manage to tell a story. She enjoys table top roleplaying, the Arizona sunshine, photography, painting, drawing and illustrating, editing the odd book and normal ones too, and is currently learning to play electric guitar. A fierce advocate of beginners everywhere, she shares information and encouragement on her blog "Mindflight" where everyone who likes to create is welcome.

Self Publishing Made Easy - Rohvannyn Shaw
Introduction
THIS BOOK IS ALL ABOUT writing, publishing, and promoting your book for the lowest cost possible. These strategies work. The process certainly takes effort but I aim to make it understandable. You'll be taken step by step through the entire process, from the gleam in the writer's eye all the way though to publishing, promotion, and beyond. As a bonus, the appendices include information about effective strategies for making money online. There are no quick fixes or get rich quick schemes here, but you will find many solid tips that have been tested and proven. Throughout, I also give advice on all the free or low cost services I have used and found, including free software that makes all this possible. Though my lists aren't exhaustive, you can be confident that everything you see has been tried and proven.
Happy creating!
Writing Your Book
BEFORE YOU BEGIN YOUR book, it's important to have a clear vision of what you want to do.
Ask these questions:
Who are you writing for?
Who is your target audience? That is, who will be interested in your book?
What is your goal in writing? To entertain? To inform? Both?
Outlines
SOME AUTHORS JUST START writing and see where it takes them, but most have better results if they outline ahead of time. Even if you don't follow your outline entirely, it can help you avoid obvious plot holes and inconsistencies. For non fiction, an outline is an absolute must. Then you can make sure you don't
Your outline can be simple or complex. I use mine to make sure I note down all the plot twists and interesting scenes that will be in my book, just after I've had the story idea and before I forget all the details.
If you really can't stand writing an outline, have tried it and it doesn't work, then do this. Write your rough draft then make an outline of that, chapter by chapter. It will really help you tighten up your book and make sure it is unified. Any plot problems will jump right out at you.
Book preparation
EVEN IF YOU DON'T WANT to write an outline, it's important to know what is going to be in your book. Lists of characters and their descriptions, lists of locations, or lists of points you want to make are very helpful. This way you don't accidentally rename someone mid-novel, or forget a really important point about a historical situation. If you are writing a book involving a journey, a map is very helpful and also can be included at the beginning of the book to help the readers.
If you are going to use magic, know ahead of time how it works and be able to explain it.
If you are writing sci fi, know what the technology is and how it works.
In fantasy and sci fi, know what physical laws you are breaking and why.
All of these things seem basic but they build consistency. Too many writers ignore these warnings, don't be one of them! After all,
