Introduction to Soccer/football
Soccer is a fast-paced, strategy game played by men, women and kids. Its professional leagues have gained billions of fans around the world. it is considered as one of the major sport and widely played in almost all region of the world. This game is also called football in most countries. The term soccer is used by the American to avoid confusion with the American Football, a sport they have that is very different from soccer.
Soccer is played by two opposite teams, with eleven members of each team including goalkeeper. It is played on a rectangular field, with the objective is to drive the ball into the opponents’ goal to achieve a score. The ball is primarily played with thee feet and only a goalkeeper is allowed to handle the ball. The main reason soccer is so popular is due to its accessibility and adaptability amongst other sports. All you need is one ball and a space to play. That’s it, you set to go.
Let’s walkthrough some of the history of soccer or football which ever you want to call it. If you are not a history kind of person, feel free to skip ahead. This is information type guide. So, you can choose what kind of information you want to gain. No heart feelings.
Back to the topic at hand, in the past soccer is identified as a popular peasant game in England and other parts of Europe. In 1363, King Edward II banned the football games which back then referred to as mob-football because he was troubled by the unruliness of the game in London and it also distract English population from practicing archery, which was necessary for war during the middle ages and early modern era.
In Ireland, the game of soccer has been played since 1308. In 1314, Nicholas De Farndoone, Lord Mayor of the city of London, issued a decree banning the game in France because of the hustling and commotion that were linked to the game.
The ancient Greek and Roman have played a similar game called Harpastum, adapted from the Greek game Episkyros or Phaininda. The Chinese have their own version of soccer that dates back to the third century and was described as Cuju, this later spread to Japan and Korea. The Japanese version called Kemari. In 1841, the people of Victoria, Australia played an identical game called Mam Grook. In New Zealand, the Mauri also have their own version of soccer that called Ki-o-rahi.
From all the historical data above, we can conclude that soccer has been around since the early days of humanity. It is no surprise that this sport is well received in our modern era. But one question arise from this deduction, why are soccer is so popular even back then? What is the reason for you and me to play soccer? I will shed some light on this question in the next part of the guide. So, stay tune and read on.
Why You Should Play Soccer/Football
When things happen, very rarely that it can’t be explained. It must be a reason behind it. This concept can also be implemented to in soccer. You should know the reasons you might want to spend time and energy playing this game. In this section, I will provide you a few reasons that drive people to play soccer until some of them make it a full-time profession.
Reason 1: Simplicity of soccer.
I don’t mind repeating myself like a broken record when I say that soccer is such a simple to start game. Soccer only requires one ball and a space to play in. The space doesn’t even have to be large. Grass and cleats are nice but not a necessity.
Soccer can be played everywhere you can imagine. Some people play soccer at the beach, parking lot and others even play soccer at their parent’s basement. Being able to play everywhere means that you can have fun, show off and improve your personal skills at any time you please. In footballing nation like Brazil, you can see people play football everywhere. Some of the more serious ones even walking around with the ball at their feet.
Reason 2: Soccer is for everyone.
So here is the deal, anyone that able to kick a ball can play soccer. It’s a blast for beginners and experts alike. Beginners love soccer because it’s so easy to pick-up and play. There is an inherent joy of kicking the ball around even if you are not so good at it. Soccer can also be complex. If you wish to play competitively, you have to hone various skills, understand tactics and strategies, and working hard to become fit. Both beginners and experts can improve, with every enhancement come the love to play more and more soccer.
Reason 3: Improve your work ethic.
If you are a lazy kind of guy like me but you want to overcome it and become a better person, then soccer can help you with that. This is not a self-help lecture, so ease your worries. In soccer, you need a decent work ethic to get good at it. You have to train hard and commit to refine your skills and fitness. Coaches and teammates always push you to work harder in training. This will help give you the kick in the butt hat needed to throw away your chronic laziness. When you work hard and seeing the results, your self-esteem will suffer a huge improvement and this will provide a positive effect in every aspect of your life.
Reason 4: Instil leadership.
If you have seen a competitive soccer game on TV, you might notice one
