This is a short (9,000 word) story that packs a lot in, but never appears crowded. It's very well written, as you would expect from this author, and captured my attention from the very first words - and kept me reading to the end, despite family clamour!
Brand has achieved a grasp of the essential tone of the Japan of the shoguns. His characters are human and believable, even though the situations are eerie and strange.
This is well worth reading - and I hope for more like it!
