About this ebook
Ryu won't stay dead.
He has been living quietly since his murder, tending to his late master's empty dojo, but one day he meets his killer in the marketplace.
How is Ryu still alive, and why does an old friend seek his demise?
"The Dragon and the Firefly" is a Japanese-themed short fantasy tale in which the folklore and faith of East and West mingle into something new.

Keanan Brand is a writer and an editor. Always a creative kid, he came to writing via an elementary school assignment. "Dad helped me come up with some action, we figured out how my hero could escape, and then I illustrated the story's cover page. Sure, the Old West tale mirrored my current reading material, but it hooked me on the creative process." Since then, his writing has turned more fanciful, much of it being science fiction, fantasy, or poetry, but he still reads history for fun.

Reviews for The Dragon and the Firefly
1 rating1 review
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This is a short (9,000 word) story that packs a lot in, but never appears crowded. It's very well written, as you would expect from this author, and captured my attention from the very first words - and kept me reading to the end, despite family clamour!
Brand has achieved a grasp of the essential tone of the Japan of the shoguns. His characters are human and believable, even though the situations are eerie and strange.
This is well worth reading - and I hope for more like it!
