A Hate to Love Dark Humor Romantic Crime Thriller:

ANTI-NICE GUY

Also in Development as a Television Series...

MEET RIP

I’m Rip Rockwell, and I’m probably going to tear your heart out and stomp on it. So I dare you to fall in love with me. No, I warn you against getting close to me. I’m trouble. I’m bad for you. I am no nice guy. In fact, I am the antithesis of “Nice”. I am the Anti-Nice Guy. And I am proud of it. You see, in my line of work, “Nice” will get you killed. Being polite, decent, noble even is admirable. It’s part of the code. But being “Nice”… it means you’re soft, you’re over.

Me and my men are known as the Anti-Nice Guys, a loving term coined by our enemies. We work in the dark. Not ninjas, but close. We’re the ones who get the job done. Men for Hire.

What we do is dangerous. Every job is a life and death situation. Except this latest one. I don’t get it, but I’ll take it. Seems simple enough. The target: Simone Fortuna, the beautiful yet bookish daughter of a former client of mine. Make her fall in love with me and then break her heart. Simple. I don’t fall for a pretty face. Only the more I learn about her, I find she’s more than a pretty face…much more. But it’ll take a lot more for me to care, to break this Anti-Nice Guy I’ve become. Or was this all part of a diabolical plan to take me apart and break up my agency?

MEET SIMONE

As soon as I saw him, I hated him. I knew he was trouble. Too darn good-looking and hot as hell for a man who works too close for my dad. And the way those jeans hug his tight buns, he is too much of a temptation to resist. I know he's here for a reason...this Christian Grey meets John Wick man. My dad's up to some game I can't fathom and I know this man Rip is part of it. He thinks I am this bookish and damsel type of girl, I'm sure. These Alpha macho guys my dad usually hires always think I am, as much as I lead my dad to think I am. Little do they all know, I have a secret of my own.

Which if this guy Rip finds out, as I think he was sent to find out, it would mean the death of someone close to me. And I can't have that.

Anti-Nice Guy is Rated R for violence and adult situation. It is Christian Grey meets John Wick so that explains the rating after all :)

There is a surprise gift at the end!

    Prologue

    Rip

    ––––––––

Do you think you could do it, Rip? the gravelly voice at the end of my cell said, quietly like steel, but firmly.

It was more of a command than a question.

Normally I would answer with a quick, Yes, I could.

But this time, I hesitated. A second. Another second. A second that could cost a life. His or yours.

I coughed.  My throat had an itch. So I coughed. Something I usually could control. But something about me was off.

Did I hear a ‘Yes’? Mr. Bonesteel said.  Again, in that quiet but steely way of his.  Figures, he fits his strange but fitting name to a T

Yes, I said.  That came out of nowhere.

Good, Bonesteel said.  He chuckled in a barely there chuckle.  More like a cough.  I thought you wouldn’t take the assignment. It’s not your sort of thing. Not enough killing and all.  I was going to give the assignment to one of your other guys. You know, Mick maybe. He’s such a lady’s man. Or even Baron. He has that billionaire bad boy way about him, women fall all over him. Your agency has the rep of having the best-looking guys in the biz...even with you being half in looks as the other guys...

Hey, I said. Mick and Baron has nothing on me in looks. Not that I use it for anything.

You use it plenty, Bonesteel said.  That’s why Fortuna remembers you.

I thought he remembered me for a job well-done, I said.

That’s a given. Otherwise he wouldn’t hire you again. But for this job in particular, he noticed your looks. Count it as an asset.

Great, I said. So when did a guy in my profession ever give a damn about his looks.  If anything, we try to play it down.

Bonesteel chuckled.  It’ll give you a life outside of your profession, if that’s any consolation.

I nodded. It did. Outside of my profession, I noticed it gave me an edge. Like every one of the Anti-Nice Guys in our agency.  We are often invited to be part of clubs, celebrity soirees, social events, and black-tie affairs where in the end it becomes part of our profession. Most of our clients were gained at those events, and doors opened for us to get there because of our so-called assets.

Life outside of my profession?  I didn’t have one.  My profession was my life.  It was better that way.

So, Bonesteel said, Now that you’ve said ‘yes’ to the assignment, I’ll give you the details.

Details? I said.  I thought you gave me the details already.  Fortuna wants to hire me for ten million dollars to fuck this girl over and break her heart. Simple enough. I’ve done worse for less.

You don’t even want to know who this girl is? Bonesteel asked.

I prefer not to, I said. Because if I know too much about the person, I can’t do my job. You know.

I don’t know, Bonesteel said. I’ve never been in your shoes before. I’m just the go between from my employer to you.

Count yourself lucky then, I said. I meant it. In my profession, you can’t have a conscience.

I’m going to tell you anyways, Bonesteel said.  Because you might want to think twice about accepting this job.

I hesitated then. What girl could possibly keep me from getting 10 million dollars for just fucking her and then leaving her?  I’d have to get her to care for me, to fall in love with me though in order to break her heart.  But why should Bonesteel care?  He was as cold as an icebox.  Nothing could move him.

    It’s Simone, Bonesteel said.

My heart skipped a beat for a mere second before I could answer back. The image of a dark-haired beauty with large soft brown eyes, pink full lips, and a body like a Victoria Secret model came to mind. I’ve seen her once.  At one of Fortuna’s parties held in one of his villas near the lake.  She was standing in front of an open window, looking out to the lake at the moon when I stumbled into the room.  It must’ve been
