Amazon Lee and the Ancient Undead of Rome - Kailin Gow
A rebirth out of spiritual adversity causes us to become new creatures.
James E. Faust
Chapter 1
Not a Roman Holiday
B aaah!
A loud blast of unearthly sound thundered through my eardrums, jolting my eyes wide open as I bolted upright from my comfortable cozy bed.
I shook my head as my eyes slowly adjusted to the blaring brightness of my bedroom. My eyes went from seeing blurry white images to seeing the colorful array and various shapes of my dinosaurs, sharks, and animae plushies that lined most of the wall in front of my bed. What can I say, like a typical girl of 13, I have collected a large assortment of plushies.
But unlike most girls of 13, my plushies were special. Not that the plushies other kids have weren’t special. They were to the kids. But mine were special because they literally were one-of-a-kind. They had been my first scientific experiments. Ever since I could remember, I had always had a lab of my own, along with my goggles, lab coat, gloves, and all the safety equipment I needed to run a lab...just like my father’s lab. He is the well-known scientist, Stephen Lee, who had help found many companies. He and his baby sister, my aunt Dr. Annabelle Lee, had founded over 20 companies, which they sold off. Many of the companies were in technology, robotics, and even transportation technology.
To the world, they were a brilliant brother and sister duo. To me, they were just Dad and crazy Aunt Annabelle or Auntabelle
, as I called her.
Despite being my aunt, she acted more like an older sister because Dad was a lot older than her. She was only in her mid to late 20s, not married, and still spending most of her free time traveling the world or going on exciting adventures. Mom and Dad said I take after her more than anyone.
So, it was no surprise to anyone in my crazy family that I had my own lab as a toddler. And my first experiments were tinkering with my plushies. I wanted my plushies to be more than just stuffed cute things that sat on a shelf or on top of a bed like a pillow. I wanted them to interact. To move.
So, at age 5 years old, I got Mom and Dad to help me open up some of my plushies, and we put in robotics. Aunt Annabelle helped me create a chip to go into the plushies so they could be programmed to speak, move, react to voice command, and even recall information.
Like right now.
Baaaah!
the sound came from the T-Rex plushie in the corner of my bed.
Shut off,
I said, wiping my eyes.
Not until you are awake,
Tony the T-Rex said in a friendly but almost robotic voice. Tony was Prototype number 2 of my robot plushies. He moved and talked like a rough robot. I’ve had him since I was 5 years old. Still one of my favorites.
If you are in need of more assistance, I am programmed to jump and land on you this morning. Then begin shaking. It is the Wake and Shake mode,
Tony continued.
I’m awake now, Tony,
I said. Shut off.
Okay, Amazon Lee. This concludes my job this morning,
Tony
