Damn this Georgia humidity. I’m sweating like a sinner in church and my boobs feel like they’re soaking in two cups of hot tea.

My dress is sticking to me like dried mud on a pig. I peel it from my skin, creating a tiny vacuum between me the poly-blend material. A draft of air flows up through my unmentionables (much to the delight of my swampy butt cheeks), past my curves, and finally circles around these cloth fetters we women call a brassiere.

I’ve done my hair up twice today and I still can’t get it to look like Marilyn Monroe. How does she make it look so easy to be beautiful, huh?

I’m staring deep into the old, faded mirror of my mother’s pink, antique vanity and my reflection is staring at this naïve girl named Charlotte. I paint my lips and dust my face with, Lord, who knows what, and – it’s 5:04 –
