About this ebook
Look out! The Malloys are taking over the neighbourhood! Pip Malloy is sick of being treated like the baby of the family, so makes a decision to stay out west with his other siblings. He thinks of himself as a 'ladies man' – and no wonder. His easy-going charm and good looks mean he's never without female attention. His philandering ways get him into hot water, however, with his siblings, friends, and co-workers. Will this playboy ever meet his match?
Note to readers: This series, although labelled 'Christian', does contain elements that may be troubling to some readers, such as the use of alcohol as well as pre-marital sexual encounters. (The latter take place 'off camera'.) There is, however, a faith based element throughout with a strong redemptive message at the end of the series.

Neighbourhood Upstart - Volume 4 - PIP - Tracy Krauss
SCENE 1
Springtime in Calgary. The chinook winds had blown in and taken with them the last vestiges of winter. Pip Malloy stood gazing out at the Rocky Mountains in the distance - a craggy strip of purple and white that separated the sky from the flat lands. From this vantage point on the viewing deck of the Calgary Tower, he could see for miles. Literally. It was beautiful - different from the crash of waves against rocks of his native Newfoundland, but the expanse of sky and sheer distance between himself and the mountains, standing like sentinels to some forbidden kingdom, filled him with a sense of awe.
He and his closest brother, Will, had come west for a visit just two weeks ago. They had four siblings who lived in Alberta. Jed, the eldest male, had been here the longest and worked in construction. Next was Zeb, who lived a seven hour drive north in the city of Fort McMurray where he worked in the oil patch. The most recent to relocate were his brother Bo and sister Reba. Bo worked at a downtown bar and seemed to genuinely enjoy the science behind bartending. Reba was apprenticing at a beauty salon.
That left three sisters back in Newfoundland. It was doubtful that any of them would be moving since they all had families. But him? That was another matter…
He had announced the other night that he was planning to stick around for a bit longer and look for work. He was currently unemployed, so it seemed like an ideal time to check out the prospects. Of course, there were some members of the family who weren’t so keen on him staying. Jed, for one, had cautioned him that their Ma would not stand for any more of her children moving so far away - especially her baby.
Pip remembered her words before he’d even left home: Don’t go gettin’ any ideas, b’y! Enough of me offspring ‘ave flown the coop.
Of course, he had assured her that it was only a visit. Oops.
And then there was Reba. For some reason she seemed miffed with him. It was nothing new. They had always fought. She still harboured resentment toward him for dating a couple of her friends. It’s not like he’d forced them or anything. He just liked to have fun and each one of them had approached him first. But Reba didn’t see it that way. In her mind it was some kind of weird competition - as if being her friend meant she had exclusive rights to a person.
Pip pushed off the railing and walked back along the circular indoor deck in search of his brothers, Bo and Will. The viewing deck gave a three hundred and sixty-five degree view of the city and surrounding area. Part of the platform spun at a very slow speed, so theoretically, you could stand in one spot and see everything there was to see.
So? What do you think?
Bo asked.
Nice view of the mountains,
Will said.
I can’t believe you’ve never been here before,
Pip directed at Bo.
Jed’s not much for sightseeing,
Bo said. I guess I was waiting for someone to go with me.
I wonder if there’s any work at Banff or one of the other parks around here?
Will shoved his hands into his jeans pockets and gazed out over the scene before them.
Ma’d kill you,
Pip said.
Says the pot to the kettle,
Will retorted. Doesn’t seem like you’re too worried.
I thought you said they were hiring you back on at the camp grounds back home,
Bo said, always the practical one. You might lose it if you apply for something else.
Will shrugged. I was just kidding anyway.
Well, we should get going. By the time we get back to Jed’s he should be home and ready to take you to the airport.
Bo nodded at Will. Sorry I couldn’t do it, but I have to get to work.
No problem.
Will gave Pip a sidelong glance. You sure you’re not gonna jump on the plane with me tonight? There’s still time to change your mind.
Nope. I feel adventure calling my name,
Pip said. They stepped into
